RBTB GTFR Day #1: The Perfect Contest

CONTEST TODAY - SUNDAY!!! Tell us why you're thankful for romance in the comments in any post today thru Sunday -- or in Becke Davis' "The Perfect Murder" feature -- 4 chance 2 win BIG in BRENDA NOVAK'S PERFECT THANKSGIVING CONTEST! Deets below. *

Today begins the 4th Annual Give Thanks for Romance event here at RBTB! In the past, I've used GTFR as a chance to thank you for sharing your time with me, for encouraging my sophomoric glee in ogling pretty young men and to, hopefully, help you understand how you've helped me, and RBTB, grow and become successful.

This year, I'm fortunate to have gathered a new team at RBTB, and in the next few days they'll tell you why they're thankful for romance, too. For instance, after having been a Bella @ RBTB since 2005, new Contributing Editor Amy Fosseen shows why she's fit in all along.

Amy says, reminiscent of any woman who's worked in a library for years and read romance longer, "I'm thankful for the letter "B": Big, Brawny, Beautiful, Brainy Band of Brothers, Boys...er, men -- Books -- Band of Brothers Books!"

Now, for Amy, that stuttering-with-overwhelmed-by-amour glee for heroes is nothing new 'round these parts. But to relatively new Bella, RBTB Contributing Editor Tracy Montoya, being crazy jazzed over romance stuff -- and sharing it way out loud with all of you -- is fun, but a little disconcerting.

"I'm thankful for the increase in the dark, gritty romantic suspense and paranormals that I love," exclaimes Tracy. But she adds as an aside, "This probably says something disturbing about my general state of mind, but I'm ignoring that for now...."

Well, we don't ignore that kind of exhuberance around here, we celebrate it! That's why you're one of us now, Tracy, mwahahahah! Whether we're giggling with the Bellas who insist they can't read a series out of order -- or waxing rhapsodic over a new book nobody knew about till somebody dropped by to hip us to it -- I get the sense we're all pretty thankful we've found each other, and a place we're all welcome.

I know I'm glad you welcome me every day.

Why are you thankful for romance? Why are you glad to have friends at RBTB?
***
The prize: A snazzy new Brenda Novak tote “stuffed” with ‘graphed copies of Brenda’s entire Last Stand series – including the new Perfect trilogy – PLUS Brenda’s new Christmas novella! Have your email addy in comment or available in your blogger.com profile, please.

I have always loved romance because it takes me out of MY world and puts me smack dab into another world. This year in particular, I am fighting (and winning) cancer and when I get tired of real life *sigh*, I can enjoy love, sex and someone else's fabulous life!

I'll jump into the pool of Thanksgiving thankfulness!

Welcome to the newest members of Michelle's team. It's marvelous to have such smart, witty, insightful women around you. It makes all the difference in the world. Michelle, you and your team are some of the gems in the romance community.

That's what I'm so grateful for this year. All my writing friends both published (you know who you are), newly published (JKCoi,Tessa Dare, Courtney Milan, Sara Lindsey, Maggie Robinson & Tiffany Clare)and the nearly published (Amanda Collins, Elyssa Papa). And those of my writer friends who are busy finishing their manuscripts and sending them out to query.

My family and friends inspire me and drive me to finish my own manuscripts. It's the support of my CP and all my romance friends that I am thankful for.

Oh, and forgive me if I've missed a few!

I am thankful for romance because it allows me to escape from the craziness of four children. It also keeps the sparks alive with my husband. Reading helps me to be grateful for the relationship I have with my husband.

I am thankful for romance authors who take me along on a ride into another place and time and I can forget the stress of everyday for a little while. I also am battling breast cancer but am in remission I'm told so getting away for some time is great.

I get to meet new friends between the pages of a book and on this blog.

I'm thankful for all the wonderful books I've read in the last year, and for the generosity of so many in the romance community.

I'm incredibly thankful to be a member of that community, and to have found so many new friends.

I'm thankful for romance which allows me to :
1) meet fantastic bigger than life characters,
2) learn so many things about different Arts & Crafts (knitting, baking, writing erotica, flower decoration... and I'm forgetting some others ),
3) make me visit through my favorite country in the world, the US. Especially those small close-knit communities.
4) remain up-do-date with all the "possibilities" under the sheets (that counts for a lOT!), 5) be simply happy and find some comfort in a delisous, funny, heartwarming story.

At last I'm thankful for romance, which probably have the BEST online community around. I've "met" fantastic ladies, both authors and readers. Thank you girls !!!

I'm thankful that my husband of 42 years (43 on Dec. 3) is still here. He has larynx cancer and had decided to stop treatment. I've practically pulled my hair out and cried forever to get him to go back. Wonder of wonders, he finally said yes. It hasn't spread but he's down to 113 lbs. Can't eat anything other than really soft stuff. He's a macho thing that doesn't do soups or shakes or other things that would help him. Pray that he will get better now that we are back at doctors. Thanks. I don't blog, so I'll just leave my name. Carol Boutin, e-mail is twin1947@hotmail.com

Hi everyone - HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Sorry to be late to the party. I'm in Chicago and I just had the most wonderful Thanksgiving dinner, prepared by my son's girlfriend. It was her first turkey, and it was AMAZING! It's so nice to have a chef in the family!

I'm thankful for romance, because while everything else may not be going so well in my life, I can lose myself in a romance and know that there's a 'happily ever after'. I'm also thankful because romance gives me hope that I'll one day find my Prince Charming ;)

I'm thankful for romance because at first it gave me a place to escape to. Then I started writing it and it opened an entire world to me. It gave me new friends all across the country and two chapters that became family. I've learned how giving people can be and have had the opportunity to give back to others.

Most recently the world of romance helped me keep my sanity during an injury, which kept me confined most of the year. My online friends/loops were there for me and sense of adventure romance brings kept my spirits up and allowed me to escape into my writing.

I'm thankful for romance because I get to "travel" back in time to a ton ball or medieval castle, visit new places while meeting wonderful lovers in the "now", escape into a suspense where a strong heroine and hero work together to "save the day" and experience worlds where vampires, werewolves and demons are "real". Reading romance novels has also introduced me to new friends who love romance from around the world via the internet, some who I've actually been fortunate to meet in person. Lastly, I'm thankful for the talented authors who can create such stories that literally "take me away".

I'm thankful for romance because from the first Jane Austen and Georgette Heyer I was hooked - on romance, on history, on England and on writing romances of my own. Those books helped a little girl who was furious at being uprooted from her friends and home and resented being dropped in the middle of an English village with snobby kids who talked funny to discover how great those three years were and how much bigger the world was.

I am thankful for romance because at the lowest point in my life when I no longer believed in happily ever after, when the love of my life had been snatched away from me by a drunk driver, romance novels were my comfort, my therapist, my entertainment (cheap because I was BROKE) my companions and a way to escape from the real world into magic and love and adventure.

I am thankful for romance because it is STILL the best form of travel, entertainment, and sheer escape on the planet. It keeps me sane, keeps me believing, makes me laugh and cry and teaches me something new every day.

And I am thankful for romance because it has introduced me to a great world of friends - my fellow aspiring writers and all of the published authors who have befriended me, supported me and cheered me on.

And if I am very lucky romance will one day enable me to write my way out of Wal-Mart!

Long live romance!

Hi Everyone - I'm thankful that reading all books, but romance in particular, has always made me feel better - sad when I needed to be sad, happy when I needed to be happy and loving when I needed it (or at least needed to be reminded about it - which is sometimes more important). Lastly, I'm thankful for all the friends that I've met through reading - living and only on the pages) Happy Reading..AnneB

I am so greatful for the writers who create worlds I'd never get to visit in real life. And create these Alpha heroes and feisty heroines who have beautiful sex and I love the HEA.
I love beautiful men and won't deny it. My favorites are the Scottish Highlanders...sigh...so I love those kilts ladies. :)
And meeting and seeing all the bloggers here who suggest new books and share with everyone.

I am thankful for romance because I get a chance to escape and be a heroine who wins the alpha guy!! It takes me to places I have never been before, times I've never been to before, and situations I would never have the opportunity to be in.

I am new to RBTB and look forward to making new friends!!

Buona sera, Bellas, new friends and old! Even though those of us who spend lots of time online get to talk a lot about romance books, it's always nice to take time to get back to basics and remember why we like the books, to think about the feelings they give us.

So many of you talk about the escape involved in reading, and I'm with you on that, too. A few days ago, I was telling my husband that reading is a total stress reliever for me. When I absolutely can't take another sec of work, answer another email, do another minute of homework w/my kids, I pretty much dive for a romance. It actually takes me a couple minutes of reading -- and sometimes re-reading paragraphs -- to sink in. Do you find that happens?

For those of you sharing your experiences with fighting (and winning!) against illnesses, I have to say that I'm thankful you feel you trust this community to be with you on it, to offer our prayers/vibes/good thoughts. I'm continually humbled by the numbers of lives touched by romance books, how reading them offers comfort, hope, healing.

You know, I've never really cared whether I have 20 or 20,000 viewers a day. If I stopped writing RBTB today, I'd never forget how fortunate I was to have had women share their joys and struggles with me, to feel this was a safe place where they could do that.

Of course, I'm not going anywhere. But, you know what I'm sayin. It's just that reading romance brought all this richness into my life, and I'm still humbled by it years later.

Keep up the great work!!!

Mitzi - I know exactly what you mean! I used to think I was such an oddball because so few of my friends read at all, and NONE of them were as obsessed with books as I was. Little did I know there were so many others out there! It's a joy (and no small relief) to find you all!
