How To Win New BFFs

If I wrote romance books, it might be extra fun to have the ear of Tommy Dreiling, Barnes & Noble's romance buyer. Since I don't write 'em, it was just wicked cool to hook up with this most excellent guy a couple days ago in NYC at the corporate digs and talk trends and... Read On, Bellas

He looks like a normal guy, but he holds so much power!

Lol, exactly, Becke!
Hmm, how about I don't want to be a rock star, I just WANT a rock star, hehe! Specifically, 3 Doors Down or Linkin Park's lead singers. *Fanning self* who said that?
I agree, though, that the romance future really rests in the paranormals and those that seems to be mixing paranormal, urban fantasy, mystery, and things, to make a kind of a horse of a different color, as it were. What I love about the romance industry is that it always gives us exactly what we want, it's so diverse, no matter your taste, there's something out there. And I've really been on the paranormal kick lately! Nalini Singh, her new release, Jacqueline Frank, and my reread of Kresley Cole's Imomortals After Dark! Love it!
Though still missing the guys and L.A. Maybe I should just move out there!

Well, principessa, if you want to meet a rock star, that's probably the place to be! And you've gotta get moving onthe 3 doors down thang, cause he's gettin married soon. don't know bout linkin pk guy. Now there's a sammich...

principessa, you so should go to h2h to write that, because I know Tommy'd be interested in your opinion.

Sammich's r good! ButD#$%! and S&^*! Sorry, hehe! It really bites that Brad's engaged and Chester (I know, funny name 4 a rock star) is married, but hey, they're hot!
I'll just stick with my crush on Matt for now. Not a rock star but definately a sweet-heart!
*sigh* Miss them so much!
And, I would post on H2H, but can't seem to register. Stinkin thing!

I've been reading all the great stuff on H2H, but often have trouble on the second bit of logging in. :(

Have you tried Internet Explorer, PB? It seems to work better than Firefox for me, when using the B&N site.

Becke Davis said...

My husband uses Safari, which doesn't work at ALL well with the B&N site. I use Google Chrome because it's super fast, but I do have to constantly re sign in to the B&N site when I use it. Once I'm in, it works fine.

Buongiorno, Bellas! Thanks so much for trying to comment!

Here's some sign in info. My understanding is BN.com suppports Firefox 2 and 3 and Internet Explorer 6 and 7 (though we discourage users from using IE 6 because it’s a pain, causes a lot of problems, and upgrading to 7 is free). We technically do not support Safari or Chrome, but Chrome can kinda work, as Becke says.

I use Firefox cause I got addicted to it at Lifetime. But to sign in at BN Book Clubs, I click SIGN IN in my Book Clubs dashboard, then click my REFRESH button on my firefox nav bar.

I've only been following the industry type info for a little over a year and I'm still amazed at the number of men invovled. My first OVRWA meeting, I was surprised to see a man there, as a writer, not just a husband tagging along. Naive of me, I realize now, but how does a guy like Tommy get into buying romance books? What, I wonder, leads any man in the direction of romance, whether as a writer or a buyer. Obviously smart, obviously secure. More men should be so smart and secure to at least become readers.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Hi, Christina! It is surprizing to find men involved in this woman-driven industry. The article explains how Tommy ended up buying romance. But I agree w/you on the secure part. Have you been to conferences yet? It's always cool to see the husbands and partners that show up; they tend really to enjoy being around the atmosphere and are accustomed already to it from being around their wife/partners' friends and colleagues. Or they get a little trial-by-fire experience. And, true, like so many others, I wonder why guys wouldn't pick up romance once they realize they could learn so much about how women want to be treated. Like all things, we've got to be clear and hand them the books, then tell them what we want them to do, and spell it out. :)

That is sooo not my husband, but I do think it's cool.

PB -- I almost do the same thing Michelle does, but after I sign in at the top, at B&N, I chose my bookclub and then sign-in again right above the H2H logo.

In use IE 8.

thanks for all the advise, Bellas! I'll sneak over to B&N and try it. Wanting to read more about Suzanne Brockmann's guest blog, as well. Reading Hot Pursuit now! It's great! Of course, all of her stuff is fabulous!

Say, did anyone notice that Tommy looks a lot like the guy who played Father Jim on Taxi and the Doc in the Back to the Future movies??? I always thought he was cute in a geeky way. LOL
