Nothing Says Spring...

Like Confection Decapitation

Loves them Easter Peepies,
Loves them yes I do,
First I bites they's heads off,
Then I chew and chew...

--Traditional Buonfiglio Easter Hymn Based on famous Far Side card

'round our house this time of year, the most coveted confection is the slightly stale peep, jez a'waitin' on decapitation. It's the only way to enjoy 'em, far as we're concerned.

Yet, I'm guessin' there're some strong opinions out there as to just which is the best springtime treat. So I put the question to you, the great Springtime Smackdown, if you will...

Peeps? Or Beans? Or is there a little sumthin' sumthin' else that your fancy turns toward this time of year?

Encore! Oh, so why didn't anybody tell me how great Jaci Burton's Wild Riders novels are? Her ridiculously hot, can't-not-read-in-one-sitting new "Riding on Instinct" has everything good: Pole-dancing under-cover heroine, big hero with harsh past and gov't agent on the take. And lots and lots of Jaci Burton hot. Oh. You did tell me? I must have been distracted.

Sorry Bella, neither in this household. It's chocolate all the way...chocolate bunnies, chocolate M&Ms, chocolate easter eggs, chocolate p's... you name it, chocolate is in.

Buona sera, Bellas! Oh, Mon, you're exactly with MPG, aren't you? He was all like, what? You're not adding chocolate into the smackdown? I was like, chocolate always gets all the attention. I think high fructose corn syrup deserves the positive profile spotlight for a change. :)

Well, that's one in the chocolate category. Oh. Guess we shouldn't make any 'chocolate sheik' jokes for Dave, either, should we?

Every year I spend an arm and a leg buying imported Easter eggs from the UK because that's what my family remember as little kids and I like to keep that tradition for them. We get all kinds, but no jelly beans-they don't mean Easter to me at all-must be an American thing? The peeps are also a bit of a mystery to me although one of my boys loves them :)

Remind Dave that it was Valentino that had adoring women flock to his funeral when he died because of The Sheikh movie. So tell him to get a gambaz and a kaffia and he'll see you swoon. LOL

Well, I was going to add chocolate to the mix too because I do neither beans nor Peeps myself. Peeps do get the vote for cuter out of the two though. But me, it's all Peanut Butter Eggs, Cadbury Creme Eggs and ears off the rabbit first. :)

In other words, all chocolate. :)

When I was little, it was all about the Peeps. Fresh, stale, it just didn't matter to me--now, all the different colors and animal shapes--it does my sugar coma heart good.

Of course I love the chocolate--Reeses adn Snickers eggs. They are sooooo much better than the regular candybars--don't know why.

Black jelly beans. Anything that can turn your teeth a greenish black color is alright in my book. I buy a whole bag of just black jelly beans.

Jane said...

I don't like jelly beans, but I only buy the Peeps because they're cute, it's not for the taste. I love Robin Eggs, Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs and the Dove chocolate bunny. I eat the ears first. Happy Easter.

Jelly beans----can't stand peeps.

Hey Michelle,
Hi Bellas. How sad is it that Peeps got me off my behind and back to you all? I love the whole "high fructose corn syrup deserves some attention" theme. Don't get me wrong--I will do some embarrassing scrounging things for chocolate. But i LOVE Peeps. There are three of us in my entire extended family, two nieces and I, who will eat them. We decapitate as well but, (and you have to swear not to send the 'she's a sick woman' police after me) try putting one in the microwave. It's bizarre and a little disturbing, but oh the gooey marshmallow treat afterward! Happy Easter Miss Michelle--and everyone!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Hi, Lizeee!!! I was thinking earlier about the micro-peeping! I've never tried it, but this could be the year to entertain the kids with it. You had me at bizarre and disturbing. Happy Easter to you as well.

Lois and Jane, we'll accept the amputation of chocolate bunny ears as entirely within the spirit of the season!

Robin's eggs, Jane! Loved em as a kid. And, Lois, Cadbury eggs have totally grown on me. I love how gooey they look inside.

Score one for the beans, Estella!

omg, ames. I didn't know you like the black jb's, too! My brother and I always got a bag every year, too.

Gambaz, Mon? Is that a little too close to a goombah for an Italian? (not to be confused w/goomah) But, you know, maybe a sheik costume might be a nice addition to our, em, Halloween collection. Yeah. Our Halloween collection. TMI?

(btw, goombah's kinda slang for 'pal,' and goomah's like a mistress or girlfriend. Remember the Soprano's?)

I'm with Kate. Here's its Easter eggs all the way. We have one called a 'Cream Egg'. Chocolate on the outside, and inside it a thick syrup - white with a bit of yellow (yes, just like a real egg :)

...OK, now I'm hungry :)

Monica Burns said...

So if I calls youse my goommahs does that mean girlfriends BFF or something else entirely? *grin*

Gambaz is the robe Sheikh's wear out in the desert. Think Valentino and that black flowing robe...then the Kaffia is that nice looking rope over the head scarf. And that rope, come to think of it, can be used for wicked things too! LOL

Add me in the peeps camp. Love me some sugary 'mallows. I also love those spicy gum drops. Although choco has secured its place in my heart, when it comes to Easter I go for the crunchy sugar.

This reminds me that I need to go shopping yet.....

Hope everyone has a great holiday.

Jules!!!! Ooh, I forgot about the spicy 'drops--We miss you.

Lizee--my oldest used to microwave...dang, what are they called? Siclets?--those little round candy coated chocolates. We used to microwave many treats.

Michelle--isn't it funny how many things we still learn. I can hardly wait to have my teeth dyed a brackish green. Mmhmm--tasty!

But every year I still hide chocolate eggs--Dove dark, Nestle and Reeses--the small wrapped eggs. I especially love it, when I'm cleaning--hah! a couple months later or at Christmas and I find an egg or two. I, of course, eat them.

Jaci Burton said...

Michelle - Cadbury Cream Eggs, of course! Oh, and the Cadbury Mini Eggs? Yummmm. Oh yeah, and the chocolate marshmallow eggs (sense a chocolate theme going on with me here?)

And about those Wild Riders of mine? I don't mind at all sharing those with you. (And Grazie! So glad you love them like I do!)

Lisa Hendrix said...

Sorry, MIchelle, we're an all chocolate household, too. I don't like anything gummy (neither bears nor beans) and my daughter reacts unpleasantly to artificial colors, anyway. Peeps were never favorites, even when I was a kid (I do, however, still love those teeny non-candy chicks made out of two little pom-poms and the orange wire feet).

Peeps lover or not, though, you had me laughing aloud at your traditional Easter hymn. 'Cause if you do get a Peep, really, you gotta bite its head off...

Portia Da Costa said...

Mmm... I am a lucky girl. I have Cadbury's Creme Egg Easter Egg and a Cadbury's Mini Egg Easter Egg this year. Himself and I have already scoffed the Mini Eggs, but we have the shell of that one left, plus the Creme Egg Egg [lol] still to attack.

I also adore Hot Cross Buns at this time of year, and am eating *loads* of them. In fact, if I don't stop, I will start to look like a giant sweet, spiced bread bun stuffed with raisins and decorated with a pastry cross.

They're irresistible!

I'm all about the jelly beans! Really can't stand Peeps. But I sure can do some damage to the jelly bean jar.

I'm all with ya on Jaci's book. I reviewed it RNTV and totally loved it. My first Jaci book, but not my last. I'm looking forward to getting up close and personal with all the Wild Riders ;)

both. All three. Buttered popcorn jelly beans. Peeps of any color (and bunnies too! Don't forget them!!). And chocolate. mmmmm. chocolate.

Smores with peeps and chocolate in the microwave!

Monday is the real holiday for me- I hit the candy sales and stock up on my Cadbury Caramel Eggs- they go in the freezer for year round treats. I always send mom some of the regular Cadbury eggs too. And Resees Peanut butter eggs. And Cadbury Robin's Eggs. And malted milk balls. and , and , and....

No wonder i am fat.

amy*skf said...

Stop it Ev, you're killin' me. Peeps s'mores? OMG.

Hey, just swinging by to wish Big Bella and her Bellas a very happy Easter. Do you guys get the Lindt chocolate bunnies with the bells around their necks? YUMMMMMMMM!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Buona sera, everyone!!! You have me so laughing at all the fond talk of sweets. Although I'm glad no fisticuffs have broken out over the whole peeps v beans fiasco. Even my son answers "chocolate' to the query, so I guess I was being stubborn in only honoring the hi-fruc faves. That's f.r.U.c as in fructose, Mon. i know where your mind usually runs, especially when it's all agog with sheiks in flowing robes and decorative ropes. :)

Kate and Orannia, you guys are making me jealous with the English treats. Did I ever tell the story of the first time I had Cadbury? My bro'd l ived in England for 3 years in the military and brought it for treats before it waws available here. My mom only brought it out for 'special occasions." we were pathetic.

JULES!!!!!! My peepfriend.

You are too generous, Jaci! I had to go back and find Diaz and Jesse, caus I remembe3red putting it aside for a rainy day that was, apparently, yesterday. Just have to find Mac... Thanks for stopping in! We love you, you Wild, Wicked Wanton woman.

Oh, Lisa! I LOVED those little peeps! The little triangle beaks used to fall off mine. And thank you for appreciating the sanctity of our hymn. sniff sniff.

Hey, Buff! You go on those beans, girl!

omg, ev! Peep s'mores!? You are a goddess. Are the creme eggs good frozen? Like, I love frozen reese's cups and kitkats... And you are curvaceous, ev. tsk tsk.

ooo, Anner! lindt. I bought those for my kids last year so i could eat them! Happy day to you, friend!

I ended up with the Easter Bunny running to the bakery for a pie and bringing me mini-eclairs. My fave!!! All that chocolate and creamy goodness??? Yummy!!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Ah, the non-traditional Easter treats. And we're big fans of creamy goodness, as well you know, ev. Hope you enjoyed!

Nicole North said...

I do love those gourmet jelly beans. Green apple flavor, etc. Yum! But I can't resist Cadbury eggs or any kind of chocolate! Happy Easter!

Laurie D. said...

I'll leave the jelly beans for everyone else. I'll enjoy a peep or two, but my real weakness is Cadbury Caramel Eggs and those little Butterfinger chocolate eggs. Yum. Blood sugar levels at our house are reaching for the stars right about now.

I haven't read this latest series from Jaci yet - anxious to get my hands on them!

I can't have sugar so I missed all that candy :( Oh and I love those Riders of Jackie's! I so can't wait to get that new one!!!

I shall be doing an order of sugar free candy after all this. LOL
