Julian Salvatore On The Prowl: Bad Boy Unwrapped (+ Exclusive Excerpt From His 12.09 FS5 Book)

CONTEST TODAY!!! One commenter scores "Under Fire!" Rainy, you're last week's winner! Email MB w/your snail mail, please!
From Jo Davis: You’ve met guys like Julian Salvatore. He has only one speed—Mach 5. He tries a little too hard, feels a little too much. His few friends and even his closest family don’t get him. He’s a shot of fine tequila—fast, lethal, and may produce a giant lapse in your judgment.

And that sexy, infuriating bravado might even mask a dangerous secret or three that could prove hazardous to a woman’s health.

He’s bad to the bone. Tamper with the lid on his Pandora’s Box at your own risk. And when you do—because he’s too much a temptation to resist—brace yourself for impact.

Exclusive ADULTS-ONLY Excerpt From HIDDEN FIRE:

Grace kissed him. Gently at first, because it was the only thing she could think of to take away his anguish. Then deeper, more demanding. Because she couldn’t stop.
She had to taste him, savor him. He met her exploration, tangling his tongue with hers, stroking. The tension in his shoulders gradually dissolved and he buried a hand in her hair, taking charge.

The woman in her thrilled at the shift of power even as the steadfast lawyer quivered at giving it over to him. But, oh, had anything ever felt so wonderful as the slide of his palms down her back? Had any man ever smelled so masculine, so potent, his hard, muscular body fitting to hers perfectly?

Nimble fingers inched under the edge of her shirt, skimmed her side, eased upward. Searching. They caressed the swell of her breasts and she arched into his touch.

“Julian . . . ”

Reason fled when he plucked one nipple through the sheer fabric of her bra, sending mini-bolts of pleasure to every nerve ending. She gasped as he rolled the peak between his thumb and forefinger, pinching, skirting the edge of pain, shredding her resistance.

He nibbled along the curve of her jaw and pushed up her shirt, treating the other nipple to the same attention. “Tell me what you want.”

What she wanted? Her brain could form only one word.

“More,” she breathed.

His throaty laugh sent tendrils of heat curling through her insides. “Your wish ...”

You see? I warned you. But in spite of my advice, you dove right in, didn’t you? Just couldn’t resist a teensy taste of a man as rich on your tongue as creamy chocolate, as smooth as fine wine. Now you’ll have to grab a handful and hang on, ‘cause sisters, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride. In more ways than one.

Love him or hate him, Julian Salvatore’s the All-America Bad Boy…and only a special woman will be able to save him from himself. Something tells me Grace is up to task. Who knew bad could be so damned good?

Ask Jo and Julian anything you’d like about Julian’s story, or dish about your favorite Bad Boy, either real-life or fictional.

OMG! I'm the first one? That means I have Julian all to myself, right??

Hey there Julian!! As you already know, you are one sexy man!! I have to say that I would love to take shot of tequila with you and do some salsa dancing too! But I'm not too sure you can handle a southern girl like me. See us southern gals seems so sweet and demure on the outside, but what we really love is a big bad boy to come and sweep us off our feet and tell us what to do and when to do (well, at least in the bedroom!). Are you up for the challenge?

Jo, Jo, Jo . . . girl just when I think you can't write a scene any hotter than the one I just read, you show us an excerpt like this and I'm blow away. It's way too early on a Monday morning to be hot and bothered!! LOL :) Keep up the fantastic work!!!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Shame on you, Buffie! Don't you know we don't allow any of that weak-willed woman stuff 'round these here parts?! "we want a bad boy to...tell us what to do and when to do it..."

Shocking!

Now, Julian, we Northern girls don't need you to speak at all when you have your way with us...

Stacy~ said...

Huh, not so fast there Buffie! I think you've got a fight on your hands if you think you can hold onto Julian for yourself *g* Let's get read to RUM-BLE!

Wow, Julian, I knew you were a bad boy and oh my, you make being bad soooo good ;) As for Buffie, well, ignore that little darling. She may be a demure southern gal, but I'm from the north, and while we may seem all cold and reserved, let me tell ya, all it takes is one good man to set us on fire, and we will make you melt. Though don't think you get to have all the fun. I'm all for you taking the lead most of the time, but just don't get to smug - sometimes we like to turn the tables and keep things real interesting. Either way, we promise you an unforgettable time.

Jo, I have to agree with Buffie here - you have made each firefighter hotter than the last, and that's saying something. Nothing like a cocky stud being brought to his knees by a worthy woman. Someone like Julian has probably had it a little too easy when it comes to women falling into his bed (i.e. QB), but Grace sounds like she's going to make him work for it, and wow, I bet that's gonna be hot! And Julian in pain? Oh man, I'm dying here. Me thinks he needs some comfort and I'm willing to give it ;) Fabulous stuff, Jo!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Did you jez call me easy?

Buffie said...

Hey now ladies, chill out! There's nothing weak about a southern gal! I said we all SEEM sweet and demure.

When you meet me you many think I'm all sweet and innocent, but there are many layers to this woman, yes WOMAN! This chick knows how to turn the heat up and satisfy her man with all she has and all she does *wink wink*.

Remember that song . . . I can bring home the bacon, fry up in a pan, and never let you forget your a man, 'cause I'm a WOMAN!

Buffie said...

I probably should shock you two and let you know that I'm a northern gal by birth. LOL!

Julian Salvatore said...

Buffie,
Querida, you're a woman after my own heart... :) Patron shots, dancing, and a lovely woman...life doesn't get better!

I adore southern women, and I'm always up for a challenge!

Julie in Ohio said...

Morning, Bellas!! Aren't we full of it this morning?? It's actual us farmer's daughters who know how to take a roll in the hay. ;p

Julian, mi amor, my Spanish is a little rough, I was wondering if you had time to give for a lesson or ten???

Stacy~ said...

Michelle, if the moniker fits....I figured you'd take that as a compliment.

LOL Buffie. I still think I could take you *g*

Julian Salvatore said...

Michelle, bella, I hope I didn't offend. Northern women do it with pinache... >:)

Maybe you'd refresh my memory?

Buffie said...

Stacy, in all honesty, you probably could take me. :) I'm a bit sweet around the edges. But I think that is just what Julian needs. Sweet around the edges, but won't take crap off of him either.

Julian, can you tell me a little bit about your family? And how you became a firefighter?

Julian Salvatore said...

Stacy,
I'm melting already, querida! Is it hot in here? And I don't mind being on my knees for a lovely lady... :)

Stacy~ said...

And I don't mind being on my knees for a lovely lady... :){swoon} *THUD*

Buffie said...

My thoughts exactly Stacy!!!

Lovin' this man all the more now! ;)

Buffie said...

Off to make red velvet cupcakes. I'll check back in a little bit.

Julian Salvatore said...

Julie,
I'd be happy to give you private lessons...make you do it 'til you get it right... :)

Jo Davis said...

Hi Buffie!

Yep, it's too early for me, too! Would you believe that was the "tamest" excerpt I could find?!

Tee hee

Jo Davis said...

Good morning Michelle, Stacy!

Ladies, ladies, there's no need to fuss. There's plenty of Jules to go around...more than enough for two... :)

Jo Davis said...

Hi Julie!
I hear you on the spanish lessons. I think I need a refresher from Jules, too! :)

Julian Salvatore said...

To answer Buffie's question...
I have 4 older sisters and one younger brother who's a cop in San Antonio, Tx. Plus my sainted Mama, who frets over us all.

I wanted to do a job where I could help people, and firefighting was it for me. But I also wanted some freedom from the bosom of my family, as much as I love them. So, I got the job at Station Five in Sugarland several years ago. I don't visit Mama and the others as much as I should, but they know I love them.

Buffie said...

Batch number two of the red velvet mini-cupcakes are in the oven.

Thanks for answering my question Julian. WOW! Four older sisters!! Nothing like having 5 mothers, huh?! So you are definitely used to being in a house full of women and I'm sure you learned quite a few things from those sisters. I loved it that you wanted a job where you could help people. That shows us you Mama did a good job of raising a caring son.

Jo, if that was the tamest you could find, then I am SOOOOO anxious to read this book :0

Did you have a wonderful time in Orlando? Any Julian look alikes there?

amy*skf said...

I haven't stopped laughing, Buffie, Julie, Michelle, Jo...{{{{Julian}}}}

I think what you really need, Julian, is a woman with a pair of handcuffs.

But don't tell your mother I said that. And may I just say, your Avatar...yes. Thank you.

amy*skf said...

D'oh--and Stacy thudding to the floor. That one made me guffaw.

Julian, are you going to start visiting them more--why don't you visit them as much as you should?

Buffie said...

Amy, handcuffs? I knew I liked you!!!!

Julian Salvatore said...

Buffie, growing up I definitely learned a thing or two about how to please women...and mostly it involved keeping my mouth shut and doing as I was told! Of course, I'm not so good at that last part anymore except when it comes to Mama, but what can I say?

Julian Salvatore said...

Ooh, Amy, handcuffs? You're a bad girl. I like. >:)Glad you like my pic, too. Never hurts to show a little skin while performing a daring rescue. lol.

I don't know when I'll go home next. Mama misses me, so I should. Bad me...

Jo Davis said...

Buffie, I had a fabulous time in Orlando! For you guys who are wondering, no, I wasn't visiting Mickey. :) I was at the Romantic Times convention visiting with tons of readers and booksellers. Not to mention the other authors-- my highlight was when thriller author Barry Eisler introduced himself to me!! And OMG, he's SO handsome... Of course, I got tongue-tied and couldn't think of one intelligent thing to say.

And then there are the male cover models wandering everywhere for a liberal dash of eye candy! Yep, there was one or two who could've done Jules justice... hoo-boy! :D

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Buongiorno, Bellas! Sheesh, I leave for a little while to drive my father-in-law to the airport and get back finding havoc being wrecked! yikers!

So, Julian, with all those women, I so think I've got your number. You may be a heartbreaker, but you love women -- all women -- and you don't disrespect them. There's a difference between being a ladies' man and a dawg, ya know?

Jo Davis said...

Hi Amy! Yeah, that's one yummy pic, huh? He can rescue me anytime...mouth-to-mouth, whatever... :)

Julie in Ohio said...

:gasp: Amy, what's a sweet, unassuming librarian like you doing with handcuffs??

Julian, do you have any insight as to how a bad boy is formed?? (not what I mean, Bellas) We know you're a good guy under the surface (however, please keep your shirt off), so we know your mama raised you right but when I think of you I start to hum 'Bad to the Bone'. Why do you suppose that is??

Julian Salvatore said...

Michelle,
Mama would be on the first plane to Tennessee if she heard I was being less than a gentleman to a woman! I shudder to think of her descending on me like an avenging angel, giving me hell...my brain bleeds just thinking about her wrath!

Julian Salvatore said...

Well, Julie bella, I was formed by good DNA... hehe. (Don't smack me!)

Bad boy? Me? I'm goooood. Angelic, even. Have you heard a woman complain about me? Nope. I leave her smiling.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Jules (in Ohio), what's up with you this morning?! You're very cheeky today!

Julie in Ohio said...

Cheeky?? Me?? Michelle, you flatterer....

Julian, you just proved my point. You know exactly what we want to hear and play off it well. You know how to make us swoon and blush. But there is more to you. Every now and then it comes out.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Julian, just to get a teeensy bit serious: Seems like some serious stuff happened for you back home. Now, I can't imagine you'd run away from much of anything. If it's not digging too deep into 'do NOT go into lock-down guy territory," what's up w/that, tesoro mio?

Julian Salvatore said...

Michelle, since you ladies are being so nice to me and I know you'll keep it in the family...

You're right. My leaving San Antonio was about more than just getting away and establishing my independence. My good memories of my hometown are sometimes overwhelmed by the bad. Without giving too many details, I was molested as a teenager. At sixteen, I was mired in a drug habit to kill the pain. It took Mama and my sisters years to see me through to the other side.

I'll always be grateful to my family, but now you can see why I had to make my own way far from there. Everyone has something sad in their past, I guess. But it the past is where it belongs, right?

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Julian, sometimes that kind of past comes back to haunt us when we least expect it, no? Many of us have that kind of abuse in our backgrounds, some feel more comfortable than others to talk about it. It's especially hard for guys to talk about, so your being able to show this kind of strength only makes me admire you more. It's also hard to overcome molestation and end up with a healthy sexuality, but you seem to have done alright for yourself. You didn't happen to read romance books to get yourself right, didja? :)

Julian Salvatore said...

Thanks, Michelle querida. I have my moments, but I think I've done pretty well for myself as an adult. Though Mama worries that I overcompensate in my...enthusiam for the fair sex. But that's SO not a conversation I'm having with Mama!

Romance novels? I'll never tell! I'm the one who plays the pranks at the station, not the other way around. Don't want to give the others any fuel for retaliation!

flchen1 said...

Jo, Julian, after that excerpt, I'm feeling a little brainless myself! ...More!

I love that whole Bad Boy is "saved" by the love of the right woman... The best situation is when it isn't so much that he's transformed, but just that the least agreeable things are left by the wayside (say, that rake-like behavior, and I don't mean gardening).

Tracy Garrett said...

"Bad boy? Me? I'm goooood. Angelic, even."
*Snort* Julian, when I think of you, angelic is not in my vocab. Lots of other words come to mind, but not angelic. ;-)

Good morning, Jo!

Tracy G.

Julie in Ohio said...

So, Mr. I'm-an-angel, what prank that you've pulled would you say is your favoritest??
I have to say the tampons on the steering wheel was inspired. ;p

Suzanne Welsh said...

Good morning (hey it's my morning) Bellas, Michelle and Jo. Ah, Julian, you sexy mix of mediterranean heritage you! Have you been up to wooing Michelle and her Bellas? I couldn't miss saying hello...but I'm afraid I have to crawl back in bed soon...want to come join me?

Julian Salvatore said...

Flchn1, I don't know about "saved" and if that can ever be applied to me. However, I did peek in a romance novel once (I'll admit it!) and there was lots of talk of "buds" and "dewy petals". Hmm, so I guess I am a gardener of sorts... >:)

Julian Salvatore said...

Tracy, bella! I AM an angel! what must I do to convince you? Get down on my knees before you? Just tell me and it's yours...

Julian Salvatore said...

Julie, I'm not sure I could ever top the tampon and maxi pad joke. I hung Eve's tampons from the mirror of the quint, and stuck a maxi pad onto the steering wheel--with a smiley face drawn on it! It was hilarious! Though Zack was *seriously* ticked off at me. I didn't mean to insult the poor little twerp's questionable manhood, but whatever.

There was also the time I blew up a few condoms like balloons and scattered them on Eve's bunk. That ticked off Sean, though I'm not sure why. Hmm.

Julian Salvatore said...

Ooh, Suz, you devil woman! How could a man resist an offer like that? Except that I'm here entertaining all these lovely ladies...maybe later? :)

Jo Davis said...

Hey Flchn1, Tracy, and Suz! Howz it going? Jules is steaming up our day here, being all sorts of naughty...

Suzanne Welsh said...

Sigh, okay Julian...I'd really consider playing, but alas, I have to hurry back to the Bandit Lair as it's my day to host over there, and as I said, I'm still sleeping from working last night...But of course, I'll see you and all the guys tomorrow, too!

(Great posting Ms. Jo, by the way and I LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this Avatar!)

Tracy Garrett said...

Jules,

While you on your sexy knees is VERY tempting, I should warn you my DH has a rather wicked right hook. :) Not that he's the jealous type, of course... I'm just sayin'.

Tracy G.

Tracy Garrett said...

Hmm--I suppose I should have said A very sexy you on your knees... Oh well, any part of you is sexy, so it works. :)

TG

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

SuZANNE! I never knew you were so shameless!

Tracy, what are some of those words?

Oh, flchen! I'm so with you on that! If all the bad stuff is taken away, just not as much fun anymore. That's what I love: when today's heroes let their bad boys stay rough n tumble and let em get back up off their knees after the Big Grovel. But, as Julian says, we're not wanting him up off them for too long.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Buffie, how're those cupcakes comin, cupcake? I hope you know I'm only jokin bout the whole southern belle thing. But, yeah, I think Stacy could take ya.

Jo! I don't think I said hi yet. I was kinda distracted by all that tanned and toned, pretty firefighter flesh. sigh. Glad you had a good time at RT! Wow; cool on the Barry Eisler brush with greatness! I thought it was kinda funny how the chicks swarm him. Can't you totally see him as the nerdy kid in English class who kinda grew into himself (clearly very well)? :)

RachieG said...

Isn't it fun when you can read a description of a character, see "bad to the bone" and imagine him automatically!?! I already have a picture of him in my head and he's a hottie :)

Jo Davis said...

Suz, isn't that the yummiest pic?! Get's the ole blood pumpin'. :)

Hi Michelle! Yeah, you're right about poor Barry. The gals wouldn't leave him alone, not that he ever protested. :) I can see him as the former nerd who made good--in more ways than one!

Jo Davis said...

Hi RachieG! Yeah, "Bad to the Bone" does it for me, too! Sigh. I have a real weakness for those types, even though they brought me nothin' but grief in high school and college. With me, my weak spot was bad boy cowboys. Tight Wranglers, boots, and an old truck...gets me every time!

Jo Davis said...

Speaking of Bad Boys, I never did mention my favorite: Mine is Clint Eastwood, hands down. I love his quiet, but tough, bad boy characters! There's just something waaay cool about that squinty-eyed stare and a sharp one-liner delivered in every movie...

Jane said...

Hi Jo and Julian,
I really enjoyed the excerpt, but I can't to wait to meet Julian in the flesh. There's nothing hotter than a bad boy.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

I forgot about the bad boy question! In the back of this month's Interview magazine, there's a shot of Matt Dillon at 16, just after he'd been discovered. My. God. I remember being mesmerized by him and how really, really absolutely a mother's worst nightmare he was on screen. So scary appealing. And this picture of him just brings back my teenaged angsty crush. He scared me he was so hot. sigh

Jo Davis said...

Hi Jane! You said it. There's just something about them, even though their bad for us. Like alcohol or ice cream. ;)

I can't wait for Julian's story to come out in December!

orannia said...

I can't think of a single thing to say...obviously my brain short-circuited when I saw your Avatar Julian! All I can say is, somehow I don't think you're all that angelic, especially considering all those stunts you've been pulling on your colleagues :) Do you find all the stunts helps break the tension/stress?

Jo - all the best for the release of Under Fire!

Jo Davis said...

Hi Orannia! thanks so much! I'm super excited about the release next Tues... :)

Julian Salvatore said...

You like my pic, Orannia? That's me doing my Spiderman impression down the side of a building. Let it never be said that I'm not...flexible. :)

Buffie said...

Michelle -- Yes, of course I knew you were teasing me. At least I do now :) HA!

The mini cupcakes are done, but I seem to have some creamcheese frosting left over and think I need Julian's help in using it up! I have a few ideas and I'm sure he does too ;)

I'm off to spend the evening surrounded by guys. Well, there boys (Cub Scouts), but they are heartbreakers in training.

Princess Bumblebee said...

Hey, Bellas! And a big welcome to Mr. Salvatore! How you doin, stud-muffin? In the immortal words of The Doors "Come on baby, light my fire.' Not that it's not already lit, hehe.
Bad boys? Exciting, hawt, riding a motorcycle, leather pants...Ok, it's definately getting hot in here.
Bellas, Bellas! Boy, we are sure full of our oats as my grandma used to say, hehe!
QB, just read your presentation and it was awesome! There is a reason you are our Queen, hehe. It sounds like you had a fabulous time. What a step for the Romance community. Everyone I told about it was blown away. Keep up the good work!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Buffie, you are shameless. And now, my idol. Leftover frosting, indeed. i've gotta learn to bake.

hi, principessa! Thanks for the nice compliments. I love that, 'full of your oats.' :) Funny, Julian doesn't seem to mind, does he? That excerpt is makin me die for the book, and we have to wait til december! If even Jo can't wait, it must be hawt!

hiya, orannia! where does jo find these pics of the FS5 guys? And do you think her husband knows she's following them around w/ the digital?

Julian Salvatore said...

Hello, Princess! Me, a stud muffin? I don't know about that, but you're sweet, querida. Gracias. :)

ev said...

Another one on his knees!! WOOT!!!

Hi Jo!

Mari said...

That is a great exerpt. I have never read any of the author's books but I would love to try. I recently also received an ESony Book Reader so this is only compounding my romance novel addiction!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

ev, you always have such a way of cutting to the chase. :)

Hi, Mari! Oh, I've heard scary stories about your Esony readers and your addictions! They tell me that going to mass book signings where hundreds of authors' books are available for download is like one big ocd rush. But overdosing on romances would be a cool way to go, I'm thinking. Glad you stopped in.

flchen1 said...

I'm glad you know your way around uh, petals and dewy stuff, Julian ;) And I do think that we might really enjoy seeing you on your knees :)

Very great to see you, Jo! Such a fab way to spend Monday!

Jo Davis said...

Hi Princess! Light my Fire is right!

Michelle, my dh knows all about my fireman fetish. Thank goodness he's a very understanding, confident man. :)

Jo Davis said...

Hello, Ev! Yep, on his knees is where we like him. Among other positions. :)

Jo Davis said...

Hi Mari,
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy my Station Five boys!

BTW, I've had my Sony E-Reader for over a year now, and I LOVE it!! I use it all the time. But yes, it makes it way too convenient to download all your favorite author's books! :)

Jo Davis said...

Flchn1, great to see you too! I've had a fabulous time today, as always!

Thank you all for making today so fun! :)

Hugs!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Thanks, Jo, for visiting and for bringing along Julian. I know it's been a long day for him, what with all the time he's spent on his knees. He' probably due a good massage.

Can't wait for next week! SO looking forward to meeting Zack, getting to know him a little better. He's so big and sweet.

If anybody wants to talk bad boys, I'll be up awhile doing some work.

Ciao, Julian! See you in December, querido...

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

I absolutely loved Jo Davis's first book, Trial by Fire and have been (very!) impatiently waiting for the second installment. The teaser at the end of book one just about killed me, it was so good! Thanks to Ms. Davis for writing a smart, fun, sexy read.

Oh Rats - I am so sorry I missed yesterday! I wanted to say HI! and wave to Jo whom I met on Saturday at the RT Book Fair. I will be reading the first book SOON! Just a shame you couldn't have Julian there with you! Although I suppose the ladies might have mobbed him! Great excerpt! Whew!
