Digital Heart-On: IT Guy 2009

BREAKING NEWS BELOW*
After an extended stint of remote site-tech woes that were out of my control -- and even with Monday's relaunch here at blogger -- you might be able to imagine how often I've fantasized about having my own information technology (IT) guy at hand. And you can imagine how that fantasy went.

Yeah, OK, it involved boxer briefs. So what of it?

It's not like I'm the only chick in cyberspace -- or an office cubicle -- to have randy thoughts about alpha-disguised-as (It's better in) beta nerd-boys who've got the hard drive to ease a girl's digital aches.

Clearly, the fab fashionistas at DailyCandy.com feel the same, cause just in time for Love Day, they've come up with thier sassy 'lil "Get With the Programmer" contest. They asked their readers to nominate the hottest IT guys they knew. Then, the DailyCandy girls whittled the field from 1,000 to 11 big-brained boys (because IQ size matters), whom you can ogle and vote for here.

And check em out you must, because their answers to brief profile questions are a revelation. My fave:

DailyCandy:
If your web-server alert goes off while your sweetheart is calling, you...

Oliver:
So, I put her on speaker, and I describe what I'm doing. "I'm standing over the computer, looking at its large, beautiful screen, and gently caressing the keys to get it working. I’m careful and slow, and within no time, it’s all powered up." She seems to love this.

Sigh.

Not to sway your votin' or nothin', but my bets are on Chico (classic; sleek; understated), and our boy Oliver.

Who's your office IT guy? Or do you have a personal IT hottie, maybe the guy who comes to your house from the local computer store? What's your fave IT guy romance hero?

Well, he's not an IT guy as such, and he's not in a romance, but my favourite hot, beautiful, nerd genius is the gorgeous and very quirky Charlie Eppes from Numb3rs.

But then, I think most people who know me, know about my Charlie-crush! LOL

ev said...

I don't have an IT guy- just hubby and a step-son, neither of whom would qualify for hot-nerdiness. LOL

It's soooo nice to pop back here every morning and throughout the day and not have all the hassels that I did at Lifetime.

ev said...

But my fave IT guy, if you can call him that, would be McGeek from NCIS. Cause he knows his hardware, software and carries a gun. What more does a girl need???

MB (Leah) said...

My husband. He's nerdy, got huge brains :D, and he's hot. To me anyway. So I need look no further.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Buongiorno, Bellas! Wow! Youz have your own IT guys at home? Hmmm...I'm thinking a pocket protector and a little tape at the temples of his glasses and Dave and I might have the makins of a new role play. um, TMI?

MB and ev: really, no need to brag, ok And, ev, hard/soft and packin? uh huh. works for a lots of us.

Gee, Portia, you never said a word about a Charlie crush. How'd you keep that one from us? Next thing you know, princess bumblebee'll be coming up with a crush on shia L, for gawrsh sakes.

Our IT guy at work is truly hawt! Beautiful smile, muscular arms, ripped abs (well, at least I think they are - his shirts are fitted, so I let the mind imagine!!!) - and the brains to fix anything we can manage to mangle! Trust me, we use any excuse we can to get him to stop by & fix .... whatever!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

sigh...ah, lis, this is one of those days I SO wish I didn't work from home.

Kati said...

Hmm, our IT guy at work is so NOT hot. I know, that's mean. But he's got chronically bad breath and he's in his 50s and has a 23YO girlfriend. Which I'm not judging, but he tends to overshare what's going on with said 23YO girlfriend. It's...not good. I'm sorry, I don't need to hear about which sexual positions your spry (and apparently truly limber) girlfriend prefers. That's TMI.

But my favorite IT geek is Riley Poole from the National Treasure movies. He's adorable, knowledgeable and totally geeky. How cute is that??

Romance hero IT geek? Hands down Kenny "Wild Card" Karmody from Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. He's hot, falls in love WAY too quickly and can do absolutely anything on a computer. That's hot!

Stacy~ said...

Oh yes, let's hear it for the sexy geeks! I'm thinking Ken "Wildcard" Karmody from Brockmann's Troubleshooters series. And I don't know the character name from CSI but I always liked Eric Szmanda - he played the young guy with the crazy hair. And there was also an Asian guy on the show that I thought was cute too.

Stacy~ said...

LOL Kati. Looks like had the same idea. I adore Wildcard, big-time.

I'm pretty much the IT person at our house. If I can't solve it, I search online and find me a website or message board where I can ask questions and get answers from IT nerds who love to share their knowledge with you. I did have to call in the Geek Squad last year because I was absolutely stumped. He was mid-twenties, chubby, nerdy and not the least bit attractive, but boy did he know his stuff. I guess it's like preferring the doctor who's the world's best at the particular operation you're having rather than the hottie with the great bedside manner who's just mediocre with it.

Marilyn

As for the contest guys -- I'm kinda liking Ken. There's something about those dreads...

Portia Da Costa said...

Oh Ev, I love McGeek too! He's delish! And I'm liking the new, sleek hairdo he has in the series us Brits are getting just now...

I like the autopsy technician geek guy too... Palmer. So hot, in glasses.

Monica Burns said...

Morning BEllas....Portia, forget Charlie, Don's the man!! And I have to confess that Larry is the ultimate sexy geek for me. Sweet, cerebral and INCREDIBLY smart. He taught Charlie after all. LOL

As for an IT geek, well I've got one in house. He's always irritated with me when he has to fix something "I" broke. And he loves it when I go away to a conference because he undoes all the plugs vacuums out the PC, and does general maintenance then suffers when I come home and bitch about how he's put everything out of place. LOL

Kati, eeeewwww on the IT with TMI LOL

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Double ewww dittos on the TMI IT, Kates.

Notes to self:

1. Get new non-remote job in Inet company with hot IT team.
2. Watch more TV.

Manda said...

Sigh--I love Kenny Karmody (or The Card as he is affectionately know by his Team 16 brethren). He was my first Brockmann hero. And you never forget your first;)

Our tech guys are work are, alas, nothing to write home about. Though thankfully none is as over-share-ish as Kati's.

Glad you're getting your tech troubles sorted, Michelle.

Manda said...

Oh, and yay about the Brockmann visit:)

LeeAnn said...

I used to have a pretty hot IT guy, but then he got moved to another building and now I have a supper nice and really good IT woman.

I’m with Stacy and Kati on Wildcard! I wouldn’t mind him working on my hard drive ;op (that was just sad I know)

Kati I thrid that eeewwww on the IT guy!!

Portia Da Costa said...

I just need Vincenzo to play a hot IT guy in a film too... and I would be in hog heaven! LOL

Lis said...

OMG - I forgot about Wild Card! Yep, he's super sexy!
And Suz will be here next week - gotta get reading, I'm 2 books behind!

Janga said...

My IT guys are my nephews. I do try to matchmake for them--without notable success.

My favorite fictional nerd is from an old Jude Deveraux story: Frank Taggert in "Change of Heart."

Cheers for Annette Blair's visit!

And I can't wait to read The Secret Wedding. Jo promises another Christmas a Rothgar Abbey. :)

amy*skf said...

I know this is a touchy subject--can't believe I'm bringing it up, but if I don't it will be an elephant in my comment--

Pete is our IT guy, he's a friend to our nephew and he makes house calls. Now I feel too much the aunt, but he's good looking and excellent with a computer, unfortunately he's got some new software so that he's now able to remote in and take care of your problems w/o the house call.

Damn.

amy*skf said...

Oh yeah Monica--Larry, I love him.

My fave IT guys from dailycandy--do I have to chose just one? I have different moods...

Damien/ nerd-in-chief
Ken/ software architect
Tim/ IT specialist
Andrew--forgot what he was...except cute.

My nephew is a pure computer genius and he just moved back here, so I'm stoked--'cuz, free.

amy*skf said...

I ended up voting for Tim, because his fave IT movie was Office Space (lots of them had that one) and he described his "hard drive"--the others just didn't stand a chance.

Oh and I keep forgetting to say how happy I am to see Manda here again!

Princess Bumblebee said...

Michelle, I have no idea what you mean about Shia. Shia who? That surprisingly gorgeous, grown-up hottie on 'Eagle Eye'?
Oh, geeks. Lets just say, gotta love em. Some of em. I must say the one IT for work is...gorgeous! Coulda knocked me over with a feather right there. Ok, yes Karmody from Suz's books is a definate hottie. The first of her books I read and was hooked!
Oh, yes, Kati, that guy from National Treasure is way up on the cutie leavel!

Monica Burns said...

Princess!!! For shame, darlink!! Shia LaBoef is one of the hottest young actors going these days, and yes Eagle Eye was his vehicle. He's great!!!

And I agree with you and Katie that Riley in National Treasure is adorable.

And if you want another geek to love. Check out Hardison on Leverage. A new TNT show that is totally awesome. I ADORE the hot, long haired assasin dude. He is sweet, but oh so deadly!!! If you;ve not seen this show. Check it out!

Mon<-- who is soooo loving the updates Blogger sends now so she can stay abreast of the conversation!! WOOT

Manda said...

Aww, thanks, Ames:) It's good to be back. I missed you guys. (Though me not visiting was more my own fault than anything else:(

orannia said...

I look forward to meeting 'Wildcard' :) Lis - two books behind isn't so bad....I'm 13 behind, although hopefully by next week it will only be 12!

The IT guys here are nice. One of them is a friend and is currently building me a new home computer (my current one is a dinosaur ;)

Stacy~ said...

Suz on the 13th????? OMG I'm so here!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

I'm telling you, Chico's the diamond in the rough here.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

ooo! Welcome principessa and orannia! Um, principessa? Is this new IT guy, like a fringe bennie of your new job? Sweet.

Ames, you're so damn right there's an elephant in the damn room. I'm just not surprised you'd only dance up to it and touch it's leathery hide, rather than point it out.

You see, Bellas, I've known amyskf about 4 1/2 years -- all during which I've worked in, well, the Internet. And, I've had extraordinary computer woes -- you may remember some of them.

But did my very good friend amy -- to whom I've introduced many of her favorite romance authors, I might just toss into the convo here -- ever offer to send her IT guy to my place? Once?

No. Doesn't even mention he exists for years, until she does so in passing, like, 6 months before I move.

Yes, it has caused an irreparable rift in our relationship. Isn't it always a man that comes between friends? Oh, if vivs were here today, we know what she'd say to that...

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Mon, you are definitely one of our TV mavens...

Janga, I'm now totally into Beverly and can't wait for the next. I can't believe I missed the first of this trilogy.

Portia, I once saw Vincenzo (D'Onofrio, everybody) play a sociopath on some cop show, and he was cute even in that role... And his line from "Men in Black" is still popular aroung our house, "The cat. It belonged to a friend of mine. Very dear to me."

Monica Burns said...

Yeah, that's me...TV maven...It's my way of relaxing when the book is driving me over the edge. I'm holding onto Heroes on the TIVO until after next week.

amy*skf said...

Vivs would say, "Sammy!"

World Nude Day? Are we supposed to sit here in sub-freezing weather in our birthday suits and read the blog on Friday?

Jane said...

The IT guy at my old job was pretty cute. If I need help with my home computer, I go to my brother. Chico looks pretty hot. I like his glasses.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Yes! Jane! They give him a certain mysterious mysteriousness...

Anonymous said...

nude huh nice

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Indeed.

Buongiorno, Bellas. You know, I just became a facebook fan of Gordon Freeman, theoretical physicist. There's a dreamy dweeb for ya. My son introduced us. I thought that was generous of him. He says being Gordie's friend makes me cool and Stacy agrees.

Portia Da Costa said...

There's a well known British theoretical physicist called Professor Brian Cox who is also rather tasty. Definitely a dreamy dweeb type... and he used to be in a pop group too!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Toured with Jimmy Page. Member of Royal Society. Too bad the only thing the poor bastard's got going for him are those lips.

Tasty, Portia? He definitely qualifies as major grey-matter snax food.

Julie in Ohio said...

My IT guy is the hubby. He builds computers for fun, for crying out loud. He meets the mighty sexy criteria, IMO.

At work we've had the same ITs for the past 13+ years and I have to say they are aging quite nicely thankyouverymuch.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Oh, you're just too lucky, Jules. I'm not sure I like you any more. I'm starting to get bitter about not having my any IT guys. I'm gonna have to start hanging out at the Geek Squad desk at Best Buy.
