Deep In the Heart Of Texas -- OR --

Honey, you just don't do that where you eat.

Everbody's talkin about it, and while I totally don't do politics here, you just gotta know that some people -- no matter how long they've lived somewhere, and no matter how well they've served their constituency -- just. don't. get. it.

So this Texan dude -- Texas, as in home of RWA national and one of the largest romance readin' populaces with about a billion romance writers-- who shall remain nameless is running for some kind of comptroller (thanks Bella Marilyn for the tip).

He thinks that his family of voters will value his moral judgment and forthrightness in pointing out to them the fact that his opponent Once Wrote A Romance Novel.

In 1990. Which he has termed, "pornographic."

He also says the fact that her name is printed at the top of every other page of the novel shows her lust for greed and the sinful spotlight!

I won't provide you the link, but you can just google on over to something like, I don't, know Texas Comptroller Romance Novel Pornography, and you might come up with something.

Please file this under: goofballs who could make me vote "across the aisle" were I their constituent.

Yay! A blog update!

I've been reading about this guy over at the SBs. What an a$$hat!

Soooo, the Book Pimp is at it again. Bellas, I'm smack dab in a luscious, and I do mean luscious book. It's called SLAVE TO SENSATION and is by Nalini Singh. SIGH. I'm resenting the fact that I have to be at work, I have to go to the restroom, walk to the Metro, everything. This book is HAWT!

So, here's the premise: There exists a group called the Psy, who consider themselves to be superior to all other races. They decreed years ago that emotions were a weakness and have raised their children to squash all emotions whatsoever, making the dispassionate and unfeeling. Sascha, our heroine, is a Cardinal Psy, part of the ruling class. She has a deep secret. She feels things. She's worried she's going insane because she can't make the emotion go away. They put Psy's who feel stuff in an institution and reprogram (torture) them.

She meets Lucas, our hero, during a real estate transaction. Lucas is the alpha of the leopard shapeshifters in the area. And baby, He. Is. Alpha. -- in all the right ways. He's investigating some suspicious murders that have taken place in his pack. He's using the real estate transaction to infiltrate the Psy and find the killer. He's planning to use Sascha to do it.

Bellas, this book is sizzling! It received a "Hot" rating from AAR. I haven't even gotten to the steamy parts yet, and I'm mentally screaming for these two to jump in the sack! Singh is a first time author and I'll say this, she sets up her mythology quickly and understandably and moves directly into the story, which is tightly written and flows seemlessly. So far both H/H are deeply likeable and I'm yearning for their HEA. Plus the book hosts a wealth of interesting secondaries who I'd love to see get their stories.

So, there it is SLAVE TO SENSATION by Nalini Singh.

Hope everyone else is having a great day!

Political, I am not. However, a person who writes a book and, I'm presuming here, gets it published shows a strong will and determination. She also shows she has good taste. I don't see anything wrong with that. Actually I say it's a point in her favor.
My suggestion: someone needs to put a pie in the a$$hat's (loved the name, MK) face.

MK, that books sounds interesting. I'm going shopping this weekend, so I will add it to my list. :o)

CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS!!! May you significant others enjoy, too. :P

takes a deep bow

Happy to spread news to maintain the good name of romance novels.

In the words of Bugs Bunny, "What a maroon!"

I've heard that the Texas RWA chapters are calling the troops to action and contacting the state attorney general about copyright violation since he printed excerpts on his website.

The poor man has no clue what is headed his way. Bless his heart.

MK -- Nalini isn't a first time author. She's written for Silhouette Desire for a few years and STS is her first single title. If you're not a category romance slut like I am, you might not have heard of her. She's a New Zealand writer.

YAY! I won! And, Totti the Hottie! =)

And, that *almost* makes up for the a$$hat idiot "maroon" in Texas. Good grief! That reminds me of the Florida politician that my mom told me about from the 1960's. He tried to get the masses all up in arms by declaring his opponent's daughter was a "thespian", um, which she was, beging a theater major and all. But, you know how the masses can be...

Hope those TX RWA Bellas give him major H3LL!!

Marilyn - Thanks for clarifying, I was going off the review over at AAR, where they stated she was a first time author. I guess I should say, she's "new to me."

rachd said...

BTW, MK, the book sounds great--you book pimp you :oP.

MaryKate said...

Rach - I'm not kidding, I need asbestos gloves. This book is so hot! The hero is just amazing. He's bouncing right up my list of favorite heroes!

I can already tell that this is going to be a book that I finish and begin again immediately.

rachd said...

Alright, but is he as awesome as Z?? Is that even possible??

MaryKate said...

Well, he's different from Z. But somewhat like the brothers in that he's very protective of his family and his woman. He's divine.

Julie in Ohio said...

Comparing someone to Z?
Isn't that like blasphemy or something? :P

I love a protective hero. It shows a sensitive side to an uber alpha. :o)

rachd said...

Well, I must say I hesitated to offer Z up as a comparasion, but well...

Julie in Ohio said...

I'll forgive you, Rach but only because I know that you've been with kiddies all day and your brain is probably still hearing the Sesame Street theme song... :P

Is anyone else LngOL at the face on the poster behind Totti? He looks like he is enjoying Totti a little more than would make some men comfortable.

rachd said...

Hee hee, Jules! He's just leaning right in there, isn't he? :oP

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

ok, Bellas? I think the guy in the poster is Totti.

MK, either you were hawking you Psi wares over here earlier in the week, or amkskf and I already had a similar discussion about this book. If you say it's good -- new crush material -- I believe you. But you know how I've got to brace myself and put my thinkin cap on for new paranormals.

Yes, JulieO, the Z comparison is blasphemous. I will have to absolve Rachd w/ a penance of reading 3 JR Wards, an SEP, and 2 historicals of her choice.

Or, she can write for me an essay: Why Michelle is Obsessed with Canna -- or -- When Will Michelle Stop With the Adolescent-ish Crushes Already?

When Will Michelle Stop With the Adolescent-ish Crushes Already?

Maybe when hell freezes solid? *g*

OK, Bellas, stayed up WAAAY too late (and skipped LOST, which is sacreligious to MK) to finish SLAVE TO SENSATION. I was so taken by the book, I wrote to the author, who is just lovely and wrote back right away.

I have to say, and you guys are going to be shocked by this, that I'm as taken with this book as I was with the BDB. Seriously. Can you believe it?! I really love the mythology she's created. The tension between the races is fantastic. And the evolution of the heroine is really well written and interesting. You can really track her changes, and those of the hero.

I really, really loved this book. It's easily in my top 5 reads of the year.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

MK! You are a TOTAL lightskirt for this book! I'm shocked! As much as BDB? I think I'm going to have to lie down and think about this for a while.

Hey, Bellas. Havin Blogger probs, but JESSICA INCLAN will be here today with her GuestBlog. So, Watch This Space, as they say. :)

MaryKate said...

Stupid freakin' BLOGGER! Lost my whole long beautiful post! D*mn it!

Michelle - I mentioned to Nalini that I was pimping the book over here and asked wether she'd heard of the site. She replied, "Oh yes, I've definitely heard of it!" Love that! You're a legend, Bella!

I've really been pondering why this book appeals so much to me, especially the hero. And here's what I think it is. He's like the BDB in that he's utterly lethal to the entire world, but with her he's well, a kitten. He's very protective of her, but is completely dominant (in a good way) at the same time. And once he decides he's having her, he won't let anything stand in his way. And she's completely discombobulated by him. He's the antithesis of everything she's ever known. Their interactions are just delightful!

OK, enough gushing.

Mary Kate -

I read an interview with Salini about the writing of the book and it piqued my interest. I'm not a paranormal fan, but your rave reviews have convinced me to give her a try! p.s. Your description of the hero is why I love Linda Howard at her best.

Nina - Me too! I adore LH. She only rarely misses for me.

Congrats on winning HOT WATER loot!
