J.R. Ward GuestBlog: Some Thoughts On Z

CONTEST!! One lucky commenting Bella wins my coveted ARC of "Lover Awakened," the one mentioned in J.R.'s 4 1/2 star Romance: B(u)y the Book review! And several others will win a copy of LA, courtesy of Penguin Books!

GROUND RULES, BELLAS: Please, NO Plot Spoiling. I'll dump any comments directly revealing plot points; simple as that. Plus, you won't be eligible for the contest. Don't make me jump ugly, cause I'll do it for J.R. Take your cues from her when JR chats "live" 5-7 pm EST.

She rocketed onto the paranormal love story scene in 2005 and we ain't been the same since. I'm here to tell you, J.R.'s gorgeous, smaht, and nice -- but I like her anyway. I know you do, too. So please, give a warm Bella welcome to the woman who's brought us some of the hottest, coolest, and most tortured alpha heroes romance has ever seen...

Of all the Brotherhood books (and I’ve written four of them so far and am into the fifth), Zsadist’s LOVER AWAKENED has been the most heartbreaking to get through. But Z is also probably my favorite. Why? Well, here are five things I love about him:

5. The Piercings

Yeah, shallow. But true... I love the nipple rings and the gauge in his ear. Hate the slave bands tatted around his neck and wrists because of what they represent... hate the scar down his face and the ones down his back for all that he suffered. But his metal is hot. And I love that he keeps it all after he and Bella are mated. She’s rather fond of it as well. ;)

4. What Z does to lessers

Makes me seem a little bloodthirsty, doesn’t it?

3. Z and Phury

Because they break my heart, they really do: separated by tragedy yet no closer after they are united, they seem like total opposites. Except there is one scene toward the end of the book where the two of them are together and you finally see them as twins. It’s often hard, because of the physical differences between them, to remember they are identicals. But you finally get the sense, yes, they are the same.

2. Z’s Voice

As Butch has said, Z’s got a helluva set of pipes... and they come in handy.

And the #1 thing I love about Z? The way his book ends.

I’m a total sucker for HEAs- although jeez, I write romance novels so I suppose that’s not a surprise. So I love the way Zsadist ends. Just love it. He gets the happiness he deserves... and more!

Okay, that’s my deal. Now I’d love to hear who your favorite Brother is and why!

Well no spoilers from me because I haven't managed to find a copy of this book in any store quite yet, and I have 5 bookstores within a 10-mile radius...drat!

I LOVE the Brothers. J.R., you've managed to do something that hasn't been done in a long time, and that is to write an engaging, heartbreaking, emotional and complex series that gets past readers' defenses and makes them fall completely in love. There's no glossy finish to make everything pretty. We feel the pain.

Because of that, it's difficult to choose just one brother, though Z rocks, and his torment is what draws us to him. And yeah, I go for the piercings, too. I think we all want to shelter him, to heal him, to get past the cruelty he shows to everyone around hin, even those who care most. Another brother that I was drawn to, Rhage, may be physically breathtaking, but as we know, his punishment was always with him, driving him, torturing him. All the brothers have some type of emotional scars, yet they still come together as one to serve and protect. It's rather a delicate balance in such a violent, uncertain world. And for those of us who have read the series, we know the heartbreak is not over.

You had me at "Dark Lover". So....how many books have you planned so far?

ev said...

I have yet..note that please, yet... to read any of the books. By the sound of it, I will wait until they are all done and then can read them, in order, without having to wait a bunch of tortuous months waiting for antoher one. That is one of my favorite things to do- find a new author that everyone raves about after there are a bunch of books out, then go and find them all and then treat myself to a long sit down to read. and do nothing else until I am done with them.

To bad I will miss the chat with JR, but tonite is my night to open the bar and I will be at work.

Hi J.R. - Thank you so much for joining us here at RBtB! I quite simply adore this series and Michelle can tell you that I've been begging for tidbits since she bragged (many, many months ago) about having the ARC. Heck, I shamelessly begged Christina Dodd for details when she blogged. Neither would budge.

I have read LOVER AWAKENED now. Twice. I picked it up on Saturday and spent the day ignoring everything and everyone at my house.

I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone, except to say that I hated waiting for this book. I mean, really, really hated it. And the pay off that you provided for our patience was invaluable. You did so right by Z and Bella. I can't wait to see what happens next, which is what's supposed to happen, right?

I'm still a Tohr girl. He's my favorite. Probably because I'm a sucker for a military guy and because in a group of extreme alpha males, they respect him enough to follow him. And for how he loves Wellsie, and for how he takes John Matthew into his home and loves him like a son. All of those things. Plus, really, we know so litle about him. It intrigues me. And I really wonder where his story is going.

Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful world and such incredible characters. And most of all for providing me with hours and hours of enjoyment.

Buongiorno, J.R.! It's amazing you could limit yourself to just 5 things you love about Z. We could probably list about 5-HUNDRED!

I agree with Stacy, that it's hard to choose just one, especially when the one one is reading can win you over so easily. What would it be like if these guys actually existed?

It's so hard, like MaryKate says, to wait between your novels. Then, we get them and glom them down. I guess by now, MaryKate, you've read LA a third time?

Lori's right, your covers are gorgeous, the colors, foil, images. So, my question would be: how was your initial BDB idea received when you first pitched it, and how has your experience been thus far?

Again, welcome, and thanks for joining us on everyone's day off.

MaryKate said...

LOL! Michelle, I was just eyeing LA and thinking, "Maybe I'll start with DARK LOVER this time, and read all three straight through. You know, for variety."

You know me so well, Queen Bella.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

and, ev...bless ya, Bella, if you can actually wait for the whole series to be published. I mean, it'll be a buncha books.

Plus, these guys are sooooo HAWT. And the action's so intense, just like the stories. And don't even get me started on the "sensuality," which is the word I must use in my column instead of, in this case, frikkin of-the-charts intelligent, arousing, erotic, sex. Except it's not just sex, because it's so contextual and emotional.

But the Brothers, the Brothers...ah, the Brothers. :) You're a better woman than I, ev, if you have that kind of willpower. You go, Bella. :)

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Marg! What a great ideer! A week with the Brothers...I wouldn't be able to bathe or eat. I mean if I were reading the series. If I were actually with the Brothers, I'd make an effort to drag myself into the shower. Oh, man...

J R Ward said...

Stacy! Thank you for your kindness! And I agree... it's hard to choose. I'm a Z girl myself. Then it's Vishous, Rehvenge and Qhuinn tied for second.

At first I thought there were going to be ten books... but not anymore! Too many new people have come up so the BDB is now an open ended series. So as long as I'm able and they talk to me, I'll write about them!

:)

I own an ARC of Z so I'll excuse myself from a drawing of a signed copy (no need to be greedy, lolol) but I had to pop on and send JR love and to put in a plug for my favorite brother, Phury. This is a man who's sacrificed for family and you just have to know he'd do the same for his mate. Who wouldn't want a guy willing to give up anything and everything for the ones he loves? His is the ultimate loyalty, once won. *sigh*

J R Ward said...

Michelle what a great question!

When you say initially received, I'm going to start at the beginning. When I sent the original proposal for the series to my agent, I burst into tears. I wanted to write these books so badly but I thought... there's no way they are going to sell. It's like... hello! In the mating ceremony the male ends up with his shellan's name in his back. I wrote them just for me and thought they were way out there.

My agent loved them. Sold them immediately. I was like WTF!?!

And then DL came out and the readers kind of adopted the series, championed it really. I was FLOORED and beyond grateful. Blew me away. I swear the BDB readers and the Cellies are the most amazing, supportive group of folks I've ever met.

I for one have always had a terribly difficult time getting into paras. I know that has severely limited my reading, but I found I had an especially difficult time suspending reality when reading them. In fact, I pretty much quit.

Well, then along came the Brothers and Michelle and all the other Bella fangrrls! Since they couldn't get enough of the Brothers I figured I had better check them out. Boy am I glad I did!

I really don't think I could pick a most favorite of all the brothers. They are each so intriquing in their own way. I seem to be one of those "I love the one I'm with" kinda girls. Although, Z, well, Z just really is something special, isn't he? I didn't realize he and Phury were identical twins. Wow!

I'm off to BAM to see if I can find LA released early. Wish me luck! =)

Alessandra said...

JR, I just want you to know that you are the best writer I have ever read. Nobody else makes the books seem so real. I can see everything playing out in my head as I read it. ALL of the Brothers are special in their own way but I am more of a V girl myself. Phury is a close second though. Although Rehv is pretty hot too... oh heck, who am I kidding. I love them all! I have read DL and LE about a dozen times each and I cannot wait to get my hands on LA!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Uh, hello? Am I a total loser?

Qhuinn?

J.R.: can you say Charmed Life? And I'm sure it's all been overnite success. :)

Buona fortuna at BAM, Rach! i was the same w/ paras. The Brothers did it for me, and I think I already mentioned, Bellas, how our friend, writer Eve Silver turned me on to DL.

NO SOD necessary for me w/ these guys. Which is kinda pathetic, and I 'm starting to concern myself cause the boys are seeming so real to me these days...

Brandi said...

Whoa J.R...I'm dying to know more about Rhevenge and Qhuinn now that I know that they're in the running with V for your second fave. But, like angiew, I'll always have that soft spot for Phury. His story can't come fast enough!

ev said...

::sigh:: more than 10 books? Open ended series?? Guess I won't be waiting much longer, will I?

I love paranormals. They make up the bulk of what I read in romance.

On the positive side, I have a whole bunch sitting here to read, so I can tease myself for awhile longer. I am thinking that with the long, cold, boring winter days showing up soon, it will be a good time to start the series. Delayed gratification and all that.

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Rehv! Oh, Alessandra! How could I have forgotten him! I think I forgot him in my BDB poll over at Romance: B(u)Y the Book. I truly am pathetic.

But I'm so glad you stopped by. You, too, brani. Stop mentioning other Brothers, though. I'm trying to stay true to Z.

Alessandra said...

Ohh Qhuinn... and lets not forget Blaylock too! I so envy Bella, Beth and Marissa... As soon as I get my hands on Z I will read it in one sitting. Then I will go back and read all three in order again.

Dannyfiredragon said...

I really love the brothers and I got addicted when I started on the first page of Dark Lover. I am always sad when I reach the last story. Z was my personal favorite from the first book on. I can hardly wait to read his story.

Alessandra said...

LOL Michelle! I am trying to stay true to V but they are all so yummy.. like potato chips, you can't have just one!

christie said...

I have loved both of the books so far. My favorite brother? Well, that is hard to say as it changes on a daily basis but for right now I would have to say Phury.

All of your characters are so well written, some of the best in the genre, in my opinion. They are flawed, both the heroes and the heroines, but they are real, despite being vampires and living in a decidedly unrealistic world. Interesting how, for me, this contributes to their humanity. They have to struggle to attain happiness against very real obstacles and the choices they make give them their humanity (metaphorically speaking of course, because, hey, they *are vampires*) and happiness. This is what make a great story for me.

Got to cut it off because this should be short, but I am really looking forward to the romantic tension in Phury’s book. I cannot wait to see how he finds his HEA and reconciles it with his feelings for Bella. And how does his chosen mate handle the journey? Delicious! Not that I am not counting the minutes until I can rush out any but Z's book.

Butter (Jen) said...

Wrath... My favorite brother is definately Wrath. The reasons:

5. His raw power. I love that you can feel him when he walks into a room.

4. His love for Beth. His total devotion to his shellan and the fact that he still wants her as badly as the first day he saw her.

3. His ability too see so well without total use of his eyes. I always get the feeling that he can see more than the other brothers... in different ways.

2. His interaction with Rhage in LE when Rhage was preparing for Mary's death. Makes me shiver with tears at the mear thought of it.

1. His ability to walk the line between tender and tough. He is the glue that holds the brothers together and knows when to be tender (as with Rhage) or when to be tough (with Z, with V...)... I love that he can read people and know how to motivate them through his devotion to them!

J.R. - I wonder if you can talk a little bit more about the training school the BDB has set up. Particularly, I'd like to know how males are screened to potentially become members of the Brotherhood? If a school has been set up (I don't believe that this a spoiler, as they were beginning to gather trainees in LOVER ETERNAL), how are they finding participants? Can anyone be a member? Or do they have to be a member of the aristocracy? Thanks. I have a bundle of other questions, but I'll give others a chance to pick your brain.

Liz Andrews said...

So glad I found this blog today. JR - your books are out of this world. I must admit I picked up and put down LE for probably two or three months on my weekly shopping trip to the bookstore. Sure, it sounded good, but everyone was doing vamp stories and I was getting bored with them.

It was a slow shopping week and my good sense finally kicked in and LE stayed in my pile of books. I almost smacked myself silly after I got home and read it. What an idiot I had been, waiting so long to buy it. My only consolation was that I got to buy DL just a few short weeks later.

I have been nail biting since then for LA. For me, Z is the perfect hero. Flawed, yes, but fiercely loyal. Two of my favorite scenes in LE include Z. The first when everyone suspects him of being a traitor and then finding out the truth and the second is when he sings at the wedding. Yummy.

Good Luck with your series and keep them coming. I will never again let one of your books sit waiting on the shelf, LOL.

OOOOOOOOOO happy day!!!!!!!!! Good news to hear the series is open-ended........can't get enough of this series!

I have to agree with Jen, Wrath is the brother of my choice. Maybe it's because his was the first, and I fell in love with the series with his story. However it happened, it really was within the first ten pages of Dark Lover. I just want to say that there aren't many authors that I will come back to and read their stuff over and over again, but still I find myself coming back to your rockin' stuff, JR!

Eve Silver said...

Can't pick a fave Brother - they're all amazing! But I CAN say that one of my fave things about the BDB is that these books are real paranormals. Not just books with paranormal elements, but defined paranormal stories that have a skeleton and cartilage and muscle and skin. So well thought out and defined.

And HAWT guys.

And great covers.

Z has always been my favorite.......I LOVE all of them....I mean how can you not loves them? But, ZZZZZZ, yeah!

If I happen to forget that LA is due in 7 ... 3 ... 1 more day, a little electric "Z" pulses through my head. Sometimes the buzz is "ZZZZZ," my own personal bug zapper going off. *shivers* For so many reasons, this series is the best I've ever read, without equal, and I'm so grateful to JR for bringing the Brothers to life.

Pamk said...

I have read all three of these books and all of them rocked. Absolutely cannot wait for the next one. I loved all of them so far and these books have gotten progressively better with each book. And my favorite brother is the one I am reading at the time. So at this point in time my favorite would be Z. But would love to have butch too. His book should be very interesting what him a human and his mate a vampire. Should definetly be an interesting read.

Brandi C. said...

With warriors this hot, it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to pick just one (although I do consider myself a shameless Phury girl)! Phury has an edge that is as attractive as his gentleness. I have a feeling that his book will be one the hottest in the series.

These Brtohers are instantly addictive! Better than chocolate! Better than sex! And written in a style that makes them totally believable, faults and all.

J.R. has written the hottest, sweetest and heart-breakingly beautiful books ever printed. Each one just gets better. She delivers a solid one-two punch every time!

J.R., you are the standard by which all others should be judged!

vivian said...

So far, Z is my favorite brother. He tears it up! His book is going to be awesome, I KNOW IT! You can't take that type of rawness and NOT pull some verbal spectacularity with it (woah, new word!). It is J.R. Ward we are talking about here and I know she's just going to take me (and all of us, the readers! Huge shout out to the CELLIES!) to places I didn't even know I could go with a book. Wrath was/IS OMG-awesome, Rhage was/IS/always will be a jaw dropper, and I think Z is going to try to clean out my tear ducts. I've heard salt water is good for the skin, so I expect a complimentary facial with my book purchase. Ward's series is total hotness and I recommend/pimp it to anyone who will listen. I'm always surprised when I see these books in the store that I'm not hearing sizzling sounds or seeing steam rising off the pages. Mad love for the Brothers and the WARDen.

Stacy~ said...

Yes, intense, definitely. I'm thrilled to hear it's going to be an open-ended series. And it's hard to believe I've only read 2 books so far. Many more Brothers to come...

I am afraid of being a raving lunatic over this series, but what the heck, OMG!! I found the book yesterday (had to do a cross-border shopping expedition to find it, I live in Canada, found it in Washington State), and I read until 3 AM ... finally had to put it down because I couldn't see for crying ... So far, the BEST READ OF MY SUMMER, the BEST STORY in the series (and they've ALL BEEN OUTSTANDING!), and I think I'm wrecked for reading for the next little while. What better thing to say about an author?! LOL

Thank you, JR Ward! What a great way to end the summer!!! Thanks for your story-telling abilities, and for sharing them with the rest of us!

Hey, all... just wanted to say that I cannot WAIT to read Z's book. He was my favorite from the beginning, and though V is about to totally steal my heart (I can feel it happening, I swear), Z is still amazing. J.R., you do an outstanding job of making these characters feel real. I haunt the boards on your website daily as Masquerade... yeah, I know, I don't post often at all. But I love it when the brothers pay us a visit and have a conversation. All I can say about that is MORE, MORE, MORE! More conversations on the boards, more V, more Z, more books, more romance, more hot guys!!! :o) I'm a glutton, I know.
MUAH!

First I just want to say that the BDB series is the best vampire series that I have ever read.

As for which brother is may favorite that may be a hard choice. I love Wrath and Rhage of course but each tidbit that I learn about the brothers makes me fall more in love with them. I know that Z will be my next love because his story shows that one can triumph over the worst that life sends your way. So I guess they are all my favorites but Z will more than likely stand above them all.

Valkyrie said...

I must be a bad boy addict cuz my favorites, in order, are Z, V and Rehv. They are so yummy and waiting in between books is torturous. I love that these books don't follow a "cookie-cutter" standard that so many other authors follow. These books are dark and violent yet totally hip and funny. Rock on, WARDen!

So my question is--with your books being so different, was it difficult to market them?

LesleyW said...

I think I would also find it difficult to choose one Brother. Zsadist was the Brother who stood out for me in Dark Lover. And I'm so glad we're getting to read his story.

But then Butch (though technically not a Brother as such) has some great lines in Lover Eternal. in fact I think he had the best ones.

And Lover Eternal also introduced John Matthew who I immediately had a soft spot for.

I love the bad boys too since Z is my favorite and Rehv is just behind him. I love the fact that Z's finally getting to experience all the salvation that Bella brings into his life. I love this series so much I've read each book at least 10 times. Of the ones out I'd say Rhage is my favorite. His sweetness just got to me. Of the ones upcoming it would have to be Phury. I want to see him happy sooo bad and just my luck he is last.

Gosh living in South Africa I have no chance of getting Lover Awakened just yet so no chance of spoilers from me - but hey the anticipation just makes it all the more better!!!
I have been reading paranormal fiction for more years than I would like to admit and I have to say your DBD series has just blown me away (and that of all my friends and family that I have passed it on to )it is so fresh and exhilarating I find myself totally engrossed when reading it and with the many discussions that occur afterwards.
I guess if pushed I am most looking forward to reading Vishous's book as he has completely caught my imagination, I would love to know what it is that makes him tick and what happened in his life to turn him so unemotional and independent from the other brothers ( the fact that he sounds so hot also doesn’t hurt!) Having said that my mind just might be swayed after reading LA! Keep up the good work J.R you are making many many people happy.

Thanks for taking time for a contest this holiday weekend Michelle and JR!

First I have to tell you I was literally dragged into reading Dark Lover! I kept telling 2 of my buds that I needed to get into another paranormal series like I needed a hole in the head. Finally I relented and OMG I am beyond hooked! :-) And lovin it!

Hmm a fav bro? Can't choose - fell in love with Wrath, then Rhage and then Z and actually wished we'd had more time with Darius and now I cry at scenes with John (and actually cry and laugh at something in each of your books JR!) I gotta love Phury and how cute is Tohr with Wellsie? I love them! And V and Butch and...lol! Well, told ya I couldn't love just one. They are more addictive than potato chips and have way more crunch! ;-)

Thanks for all the hours of fantastic entertainment! I am always spreading the word about JR Ward and your fabulous Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Just want you to know how much I enjoy the BDB! And now, the cell, all the cellies, and you as WARDen, of course! I never thought I'd be a cell dweller!!

It's so hard to pick just one fave Brother! They each have something about them that is so unique and engaging! Although, I have to say, I keep comin' back to V!!! Lovin' me some VVVV!

Oh, and just so you know, I love Fritz! I love the glimpses you give of him...soft spoken, the liverly, the way he takes care of and dotes on the Brothers! Fritz Rocks!

Thanks so much for letting us see what's in your head and letting the Brothers out! LOL!

In terms of a favorite Brother, for me it is a tie between Wrath and V. Both exude a type of raw dominance mixed with vulnerability that I find simply intoxicating.

What I love about all the Brothers is the mix of dangerous bad a$$ with intelligence, loyalty, protectiveness and sensitivity.

The stories themselves are wonderful because we are given a magic window into the inner workings of the Brothers, their struggles and their demons. There is no such thing as perfect in this world. It is nice to see that reality translated into their world.

Finally, I love that feeling of protectiveness and fierce loyalty that the Brothers engender from the reader. Because as bad a$$ as they may be...someone needs to protect the Brothers and make sure they all get a happily ever after.

I am eternally grateful that the Brothers have found their Challa and they she shares them with us.

Thank you for writing Z's saga to happiness. I can't wait to get my hands on his book tomorrow! I love WRATH and BETH! I reread their story over and over again. What I like most about Wrath is that even though he acts like he doesn't care for anyone, deep down he cares for Beth and each and every one of his Brothers. His protectiveness is very endearing and heartwarming to me. I'm glad he found his Beth!

I've been a Z girl from the beginning. How can you not root for him to triumph over a horrific past? To find love and acceptance not just from Bella but from himself? While I think there will always be a dark edge to Z I always believed his redemption was possible. His past did not totally ruin him as evidenced by the brief glimpses of compassion he was able to exhibit. If he were totaly gone he wouldn't have been able to offer comfort to Rhage, he would have taken Havers' offer and he sure wouldn't have the voice of an angel. *sigh* Zzzzzzzzz

The BDB has a place of honor on my bookshelf and in my heart. Who could not fall in love with the protectors of their race? So strong, brave, and unwavering in their loyalty. Each book that I have read has lead me to believe that this must be favorite. But no, it is not to be. The next book comes and this Brother is my favorite. As we catch glimpses into the hearts and minds of each Brother it becomes even harder to choose. Pick a favorite? Impossible. Especially now that I know that this is an open ended series.

I love each of these Brothers as they come to live and we learn what has happened that lead them to this point in their lives. I have laughed, cried, and cheered for each of them. I will continue to do so as long as each life story of the Black Dagger Brotherhood comes to life.

Thank you for such wonderful stories of hope and love.

I think every Brother so far has been my favorite! ;) Up until now, I prided myself on not being too much of a fangirl, but this series, these characters own my @ss. I had a soft spot for Rhage after reading LE, but as I continued to reread it, I needed to know Z's story and to see he and Bella come together. I know I'm going to bawl my eyes out when I read LA (I'm getting two copies, so I can have a pristine one after I wreck the first with tear stains), and after rereading that a few times I have a feeling Phury will become my favorite for a while. Yes.. Need to know more about him.

If I'm honest, though, I do have a big, big weakness for Vishous. Smart, sex-ay, tattooed and dangerous. *sigh*

May I just say how excited I am the series is just going to continue to grow and grow? I always hate knowing a series is finite--you have to leave all those you fell in love with behind. But, BDB to go on and on? Wow! Awesome!

Oh, and just thought I would share this tidbit, When I got to BAM there was only one LA left on the shelf--even though it's not supposed to be released until tomorrow. The inventory tag on the back of the book says "9 of 10". Yup, already sold out all TEN books!!

Sending you love from cellie land
you know we love the brothers and just cant wait till tomorrow

MyAngel said...

Even though I favor V, everyone of the Brothers are my favorites. Each one of them suits a different part of me, just depends on my mood. JR, you have gave us a wonderus gift in the BDB and all the cellies love you for it.

azteclady said...

No spoilers at all--just congratulations on great books and waiting to get my dirty little mittens on my very own copy.

Athena said...

ok just had to type something. Sigh.

Yesy Rubi said...

I love'em all! but Z has always been my fav. He's an all-around bad MoFo and the toughest guys always turn out to be the biggest kittens inside.
JR, I haven't even read LA and I'm already counting down to LR. Each story just takes us deeper in the BDB circle and I'm itching to read what happens to them all next.

shanghi said...

I Love all the Brothers! WooHoo!

Athena said...

NOT AS MUCH AS I DO. I LUUUURV them soo much. Dreamy sigh. Oh what's up shanghi? I've finally got the bloggy thing to do MY thing. HEHHEHEHE

Sair said...

I can't choose between the brothers, they're all good.

Mia said...

V and Z are my top two brothers. I have seen the book out in a couple of stores, but I have resisted the urge kept on walking. But tomorrow I won't have to resist anymore!! Thank god, cuz I don't think I can wait any longer!!

Love me some Z!

Sair said...

It's 6 am here in Australia ---RELEASE DAY yippeee------ and I won't get the book today, but this week some time. I ring the bookshops every day, they all have copies coming in.

shanghi said...

Hey WARDen are you going to join the party in the cellie lounge after the blog?

orannia said...

HI WARDen

Not an easy question for so early in the week :) Hmmm, I love all the Brothers, but my favourite is Phury - SIGH! He's filled with so much pain, and self-hatred and...emptiness! And then there is his feeling of being unworthy...I know Z's book is going to so hard to read (and yet I can't wait) but Phury's journey is really going to hurt!

Thank you WARDen, for introducing us to such worthy males - I only hope we can be worthy of such a gift :)

orannia *who is so excited that it is FINALLY the 5th of September in NZ, although books (e.g. LA) have to travel a long way to get to NZ - they have to swim - so she is trying to be patient*

shanghi said...

I let everybody in the lounge know where we were. I'm hoping the book is in the store tomorrow, what with it being a holiday.

Mia said...

I have a question for the WARDen...If we get the book at midnight or 1 am does that count as getting it on the 5th? My local Walmart has it and they are open 24/7, so I want to go get it in the AM so I can get started reading it.

shanghi said...

I'm having a thing going for Phury(it's all about the hair),but I very curious about Rehv. And tomorrow seems so far away.

FloraT said...

I also saw at BAM in my area that it was released early and almost gone. I am glad though. A holiday weekend. I read the entire book before I went to bed. Of course that put my in bed at 4:00 am but I had no choice. I had to finish Z's story. I was captivated. No spoilers here but it is wonderful. If you are a true fan you will feel all the emotions, sadness, anger, happiness, joy, loss. You get the idea. If you have not read this book, run right out and get it. Call in sick if you have to work and finish it in one sitting. It is so worth it.

Athena said...

jeeeze luis. waves at everybody! how's it goin'? so WARDen you goin to the LA eve party? LOTs and LOTS of drinking. just watch out for the plants. ahem. yeah.

RitaSV said...

WARDen, this has got to be a little like going into labor and knowing that your baby arrives tomorrow! All that work and love finally being introduced to the world. I for one can't wait. I've got two copies of LA reserved and will be pressing my nose against the bookstore window tomorrow morning to be the first customer in the door so I can get my hands on Z.

What fun you add to our lives! Thanks for agreeing to tell the Brother's stories, they obviously knew what they were doing when they picked you!

MUUUUAAAAHHHHHH!!!

Rita :o)

Athena said...

florat!!! grooooanning. Man, now I'm salivating. I wanna get Z's book!

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Ciao, Cellies, from the Bellas! Strange coincindence that Z's girl is Bella, and we're the Bellas?

Anywayz, so happy you stopped in to cheer on J.R., and to let us know who your fave Brothers are.

You seem to fit right in here,Cellies, cause we love to talkk HAWT alpha bad boys.

But More Than That, you like to talk real about romance and make no excuses for why you love it.

And, you really get why J.R.s books are so great. She brings home the goods cause she's got the chops. The BDB could never be as real if she couldn't.

Congrats for getting your book, Rach and evyone else who scored.

And, I LOVED thatyou give Fritz props, dd03! He may not be as buff as the Brothers, but he's got it goin on, nonetheless.

oo, oo. Will the Good Doctor ever get his story, I'm wondering, J.R.? Maybe a side-story? I mean, how tragic is his love story?

Oh, and I've got to commend you. I thought your depiction of an adult who'd experienced sexual and physical abuse was very well done; so helped us feel his psychic angst, not to mention his confusion and aversion to his sexuality. Brava, Bella J.R.

FloraT said...

One problem, I have to wait for March for Butch's story, Lover Revealed. I will be counting the days.

shanghi said...

OK shutting up(about the plant that is)They want V in the cellie lounge.Having a hard time making sense of this blog.

Mia said...

athena, didn't we cut you off from the booz? We've already sacrificed one plant for you.

LawyerLatina said...

Good lord. Mayhaps V should have given the cellies a little tutotial on how this works! LOL
I think I got it though.

Hello Bellas and fellow Cellies. Decided to leave the LA eve party just long enough to pop in here and support the wonderful WARDen!

dd03 said...

"Michelle Buonfiglio said... Ciao, Cellies, from the Bellas! Strange coincindence that Z's girl is Bella, and we're the Bellas?"

Thanks for makin' us welcome! We're a crazy bunch, we are! But love J.R. and the BDB!

And the "Bellas" is quite appropriate, yeah???

And thanks, I just crush on Fritz, he's too cute! I think of the little ol' butler in Mr. Deeds when he tells Adam Sandler he "safe" after Adam crash down the banister!! Bah!! He cracks me up!!

Hope everyone feels free to join us in the Cell Lounge later!!

Athena said...

sniff indignantly. It'll take more than a simple lock on the cabninant to keep ME away from my vodka!

FloraT said...

All of the Brothers are strong men have had serious blows to their soul. They can survive but not as a whole person. I think what pulls me in is that sometimes I feel the same way. When you take a blow that injures your soul, it feels as if you are just existing not truly living. Thank you JR for showing that there is always hope.
Yes, I know it is just a story but it comes alive in the way some authors never achieve.
Fritz, is a hero. He takes care of the Brothers without them even realizing that they are being coddled and cared for. Nothing ever fazes him and he stands in the midst of chaos allowing for a sanctuary from the battles.

shanghi said...

I never left, I'm getting pooped running back and forth between rooms. Ain't this great!

Hi WARDen, and hi to the other cellies, and the other Bella's as well.
I love this series, can't get enough of it, re reading the first two in anticipation of the third, darn Amazon for not shipping it to arrive Tuesday, and Darn UPS, for not working today.
Seriously looking forward to Butches story. Thanks JR for some of the best world building I have read in years.

Way to say florat....

And that's what I couldn't get out about Fritz...thanks!!!

Love all the brothers but V is my favorite so far- I can't wait to see his world rocked by his mate. He's so used to being in control and I can't wait to see how he responds to her and to his feelings. Much love and props to the WARDen!

Mia said...

Athena, you feeling better? I took a nap after our little game of twister. I've now upgraded to Strawberry Margaritas, YUM!!

shanghi said...

Very nice Florat. I love Fritz too, wish I had some one like him around to keep my life organized. It's like total chaos sometimes.

Brandi C. said...

Athena, it was probably Fritz who sneaks in to care for the plants. PS this is Fairie1209 here!

Athena said...

we're trying to lure him out of hiding in the cell. you'd think with all the time he spends on the net he'd be on, more than not.

He is one of John's trainee classmates and you are going to see a lot of him. He has one blue and one green eye and he's...

YUUUUUMMMMMMMYY

You'll meet him soon but I won't tell you exactly when or where.

:)

Sair said...

Hi J R,
A writing question.
Are you one of those writers that the muse hits at 3am and you have to go and write there and then to get it out of your system, or have to pull over in the car and make a note on the back of an envelope, or are you much more organised??

Mia said...

Hi WARDen!! I am so excited, I missed the last chat you guys had, so I'm glad I'm here for this one.

I hope you have a chance to stop by the LA Eve of Release party. We're having a great time there! We're planning another game of twister after the chat!

Athena said...

WAAAAARDen. Wanna drink?

Rioghan1 said...

Hi WARDen. You have absolutely ruined me for stories! I'm having the hardest time reading anything else while I wait to get my hands on Z tomorrow. Nothing is holding my attention! Ack!

Athena said...

is something going on? everythings reeeallly quiet

Mia said...

I know Z and V are my top two, but thed more characters we get to know, the more I decide to change which is my top pick. I think it depends on my mood which brother is my top pick. But V will always be number 1 in my heart.

cmarie said...

Hi WARDen.
Another Cellie who can't wait until tomorrow.
How much of Rhevenge will we see in Z's book?
Seeing as he is Bella's borther, Will we uncover alot of the mystery that surrounds him?

I'm so looking forward to Z's book. There's just something about him that appeals to people that have baggage. You know the HEA!

shanghi said...

Not me , got the same name here. Hi WARDen!

Lami said...

What did we do before the BDB? I am glad you took that chance to write the books! Thank you WARden.

LawyerLatina said...

Hiiiiiiiiya!!! Sitting here eating my "Nalla" cookies! Bouncing back and forth between here and the LA eve party.

RitaSV said...

I'm with you Rioghan1, having a really hard time concentrating. On another note, I was happy to hear that a couple of ladies I tried to pimp the brothers to the other day have actually promised to pick up the books once they finish the ones they are reading now. I'm going to be on tenterhooks until I hear what they think of them....

LadyGodgifu1057 said...

V is my favorite after Z, especially since you have hinted about his more complex personality. They may be neck and neck as my 2 favorites....ok heck, I LOVE THEM ALL!

Mia said...

I'm excited about Z's book because in DL and LE, even though they say he is souless, you see beyond that to the heart he has and is just hidden beneath all of the hurt that he's gone through.

gerri said...

hi everyone..finally figured this out :-)

Rioghan1 said...

Rita, how could they NOT love the Brothers? What's not to love?

dd03 said...

Oh, goddess...

Athena said...

nodding. I love them all too. each for his own reason. passing bottle around. Another drink anybody?

Mia said...

hi gerri, we were missing you, glad you made it!!

J R Ward said...

Christie- Thank you! Yeah... I have to say that the Brothers are wildly real to me- which makes me nuts but frankly? I'd rather spend time with them than almost anyone I know- I feel so lucky they came to me. :)

Butter!!!! Baby girl! LOLOL I knew you were going to go with the King.

LizAndrews thank you for the kindess- LOLOL No more shelf sitting for the Brothers! :)

Brandi C. said...

If Z truly had been soulless, he would have been a lesser. Z has more than his fair share of baggage to deal with but Bella is the key to "saving" him.

LadyGodgifu1057 said...

I can't wait to get to know the rest of them! WARDen, I love they way they have communicated their personalities to you, holding nothing back, the good, bad and ugly.

Alandra Lee said...

WARDen - if you being nuts allows you to write so well, I say be as crazy as you want!

J R Ward said...

MaryKate- great question! The trainees are drawn from the aristocracy and have warrior blood in their lines. They are screen primarily on the basis of their ancestors. It's working well with this first class- I think the Brothers are fairly satisfied- but it's going to be a while before they get the sense of whether it's a real go- because the trainees really need to go through the transition before they can be judged, you know?

What I wonder about is whether in the future they will broaden the membership to outside of the aristocracy. It would hard because of tradition and because those with warrior blood in them do tend to be stronger and larger. But the Cellies know I'm no fan of the glymera so if there are more non-arisots in there that would be great!

Welcome back, JR! The last time you were here I hadn't read the books yet. Since then I can't get enough of them. I love each brother for one reason or another, but Phury and V didn't do much for me until LA. I can't wait to see what you have in store for them. I can see John's story being amazing. Z was and is a favorite because he was the hardest to like. Wrath is...well he just is. Butch is something else. I can't quite get my finger on him yet. One minute I love him the next I want to smack him. Tohr...well I can't wait to see what you do with him. I love how he just adopted John and has made him his own.

RitaSV said...

WARDen, we know that V is a very private sort of vampire. How's he feeling about telling you his story knowing that the rest of us will be reading it?

Has there ever been something in a book that you really wanted to keep in there, but the editors that be decided that it couldn't stay, ie. too controversial or whatever?

gerri said...

I've been re-reading LE today so I'll be refreshed tomorrow and I have to tell you the scene I just left off on was when Rhage was having that little party so Mary can have some semblance of normalacy. Z n Bella in his room, she thinking that she makes him sick and then Bella finally leaving and Z going to Phury with the bag...that still gets to me no matter how many times i've read it. Such sadness inside of him.

J R Ward said...

Hi all! I usually only read blogs and never post but just needed to join in here. The world of the BDB is quite simply one of the most interesting worlds out there as are the characters. Thank you for giving us these fascinating looks at all of these unique individuals. They appeal on so many levels, it's a visceral attraction.

By the way in answer to your original question: I'm serially monogamous with the brothers; the book I'm reading is my favorite.

J R Ward said...

Eve Silver-

You know you bring up a great point about the reality in the paranormal world. I remember very vividly while writing DL, that I was like okay... I want this to feel like the real world: I want to bring the feel of the normal to this context of paranormal. So I'm grateful you found that it seems real because I work on that a lot! :)
