As we speak, I am getting ready to leave for a quick trip to Miami. I’m off to the Florida heat with my husband and another couple for a quick getaway. But I’m a writer. A writer on deadline and so I will be taking my laptop along with me.
I love my laptop. I feel lost without it by my side. I feel connected when I have my computer, my Macbook Pro by my side. It’s the electronic gadget I can’t live without. Of course when I’m out, I usually have my cell phone, but it’s just not the same as email. For some reason, it is email courtesy of my computer that makes me feel connected.
Connected is a good word. An important word. It’s the word that holds all my stories together but maybe my new hardcover CROSS MY HEART (in stores now) most of all. Why is CMH different? For one thing, the hero Tyler Benson, the heroine Lacey Kinkaid, and their best friend Daniel Hunter ARE connected. These three friends are each other’s family. They bonded when they were sixteen/seventeen years old living in Ty’s mother’s foster home. Blood couldn’t make the ties between these three any stronger.
Which brings me to another way CMH is a different story for me. The emotions in this book are deeper. Ty, Lacey and Hunter fake Lacey’s death and she runs away to NYC rather than leave the safety of Ty’s mother’s foster home and return to her abusive uncle. They don’t see Lacey again for ten years – until her uncle decides to have her declared legally dead so he can claim her trust fund. Ty looks Lacey up, determined to bring her home so she can claim what is rightfully hers – and although he doesn’t realize it at first, so he can claim her heart.
Of course, CROSS MY HEART wouldn’t be a Carly Phillips story without some fun involved and despite the heart tugging emotions, there are some light moments that involved DIGGER the dog, Lacey’s beloved pooch who has stolen quite a few hearts on the Internet.
Because I adore Michelle and I am so grateful she’s brought me back to tell you about this special book of mine, I want to give her readers a treat. Anyone who posts today has the chance to win a SIGNED copy of CROSS MY HEART and HOT ITEM along with DIGGER the Dog. (a stuffed replica of course!) NOTE: the picture shows ARC's. The actual prize includes the real autographed books.
Well, I've confessed my weakness. The thing that makes me feel connected and not lost is email. So tell me … what electronic gadget can you not live without? Come on, fess up. You'll feel sooo much better AND you'll be entered to win the prize! Good luck, all!
