Sari Robins: "What does one wear...

...to a proper seduction?" Lady Edwina Ross asked herself while frantically scrambling to get ready for a steamy encounter. And from her words came the title of my new book. THANK YOU!!!

For me, selecting a book title is almost as stressful as naming a baby. You want it to suit, to be likeablele, and not to have any unforeseen consequences (the same name as ten other kids in the class, bad nicknames, etc.). For a book (not a child), first and foremost, you want something that screams, "Buy Me!" and secondly, "Romance!" so that the reader knows what they're getting. Nothing's worse than expecting a light romp and getting a tragedy.

For "What To Wear To A Seduction," my heroine was in a mad state of preparation for her rendezvous. Picture Bridget Jones waxing her legs, rolling her hair and trying to decide between the leopard print or grandma tummy-slimming panties. With that in mind, for fun I got together with my friends at SPANX to offer my readers a chance to pick whatever seductive look fit their fancy. If you go to my site, you can enter my contest for a chance to win $400 in SPANX products today! I love my SPANX, so check it out at
www.SariRobins.com

What's up next? I'm scrambling a bit myself, trying to conjure the perfect title for the next installment in the Andersen Hall series. This book is about a lovely lady spy who happens to fall in love with the man investigating her for a crime.

Any ideas?
That I'm free to use, of course...

What to Wear for a Night of Crime?

sounds a bit long ...

Sari, I have done what no one is supposed to do--I picked up What to Wear to a Seduction, and started reading it, even though I haven't read the first two in the series.

I didn't realize it (until page 2)but, I don't feel I 've lost anything--I'll go back and read the other two, but I'm finishing this first--I love the whole cast of characters. Of course Prescott and Edwina are my favorite.

And I really am thinking about the title--I love titles. Just haven't come up with anything yet.

Welcome to RBtB, Sari. Sadly, I wasn't able to find your book at any of my stores, so I have to order it from Amazon.

I'm afraid I one of those people who like the tummy slimming grandma panties. When you are trying to fit into a tight sexy dress, sometimes a little help is necessary. That is the main reason I wear panty hose.

I loved finding names for my daughters. It was so much fun. However, to name a book I don't think I'm up for that.
The first thing that came to my mind was "The Spy Who Shagged Me".
I don't think the phrasing is historically correct, but feel free to use it. :o)

Amy, thanks for letting me know that this is part of a series? I would be upset if I had ordered book 3 without 1 or 2.

What are the names of the first 2 books?

Sari said...

Hi, Julie,

The 1st book in the series is ONE WICKED NIGHT and the second is MORE THAN A SCANDAL. But every book can be read as a stand-alone story.

Hi, Amy, I'm so glad you are enjoying WHAT TO WEAR TO A SEDUCTION! Don't worry about reading out of order- each book can be read on its own.

Thank you all for your comments!
And thank you, Michelle, for having me!

Best, Sari

Hi, Sari! Welcome. And glad to read you Bellas here this am, too. Hmmm, JulieO. I think "The Home Office Agent Who Shagged Me" might be more historically accurate.

We love a series here, Sari. And these chicks read a lot of em.

Valeen, I am hideous at thinking up titles. I came up with RBtheB and I think that my ability was tested there. And spent there, too. But you guys are always so creative with the word verification phrases, I figured you'd be good at helping Sari with this one, too.

Ames, I know you'll come up with something.

There are so many cool Regency terms. Youz'll hit on a play on words, I just know it.

:)

Thanks, Michelle!

For my title I keep hoping that somthing brilliant will pop into my head-- and JULIE- don't think that I didn't come up with some titles pretty similar to yours! The Spy Who ______ Me --it gets really interesting the more desperate you become :).

Keep 'em coming ladies! Thank you!

Best, Sari

Sari, you mean my title wasn't an original?

How about CONSORTING WITH THE ENEMY?

Michelle, you are the wiz of the words.
What about THE HOME OFFICE AGENT WHO COMPROMISED ME?

Gee, and Valeen thought her title was long. :o)

Hi Sari!

I don't have any title suggestions, but thought I'd drop in and say hello and welcome to the blogging world! :)

COMFORTING THE ENEMY?

You know, I was wrong. This is more fun than I originally gave it credit for.
I don't know if I am being helpful, Sari, but thanks for the fun. :o)

Hi Sari, great to have you stop by! I am a huge fan of historicals and yours sound really, really good.

I'm not so creative but I do admit to having fun thinking up corny titles like "Up Against the Wall!" (RRtB inside joke), or "The Corset Must Fit the Crime" or "A-Spying We Will Go" (can't you just hear the chorus: a-spying we will go, a-spying we will go, up on the rooftops, a-spying we will go....) Proof as to why I'm not a writer, just a happy reader...

There is always the obvious...

Sorry, I just really like Chevy Chase and Dan Akroid (sp?) and couldn't pass it up.

Hi, Willa, Thanks for stopping by!

Hi, Stacy - you had me humming at my computer. Very cute!

Julie- it is fun! But still I am without a title....

Valeen said...

A Corset for a Spy? See - I suck.

The Spy Who Loved Me? Spying on a Seduction? LOL

I like Stacy's "The Corset Must Fit the Crime"

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

I think the stories of your series sound intriguing, Sari. What do you do to make your historicals stand out from the rest of the pack? Obviously, the great cover and title are pluses. :)

And I;m wondering whether your Lady Spy is an agent for the Crown? Works for the Home Office? What a nice twist on the nobleman working for his country Regency plot... Am I asking or TMI?

BTW, we talk here about loving a nice, sexy scene of capitulation between h/hn UATW, hence, Up Against The Wall. :)

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

OK. I'm thinking it might be fun to come up with some Incredibly Awful Titles. What say you?

"I Spy with my Criminal Eye."

How's that for a starter?

Julie in Ohio said...

Michelle, you mean we weren't already doing that? :o)

Hi, Cindy! Thanks for stopping by to support Sari.

I SO need to get some writing done. Cause it's Tuesday, the day I'm SUPPOSED to be writing. Or, more aptly, the day I usually avoid writing cause Wed is my deadline.

Oooh, fun topic! Hi Sari =)! Report cards all finished, last day tomorrow, so now for a little bit of fun =).

Currently I'm coming up blank on an idea for a title. But, I have really enjoyed your other books, Sari. I can't wait to read WTWTAS.

Keep them coming, ladies! This is great fun and perhaps we will hit GOLD!

Hi, Rachd- Thank you! I can't tell you how much it means to mean when someone else enjoys my stories! I love writing and sharing my dear friends (characters) with others is a special thing. Thank you!

Hi, Michelle- you have a deadline and are online? I bow to you. I can't seem to keep anything straight when I am heading close to that home stretch. Good luck!

Best, Sari

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Thanks, Sari. Got the weekly crisis: deadline Wed 10 am. These Bellas are used to my hanging here to avoid writing. And, I couldn't miss your guestblog.

JulieO, just keep going. The word may get out, and other writers will come troll for titles.

Good work on the cards, or cods, as we like to say with our fake Boston accents. You rock. Do you ever feel like you want to give kids better marks cause they're just nice kids? (a version of the same question I get asked all the time.):)

Stacy, I like SEDUCED BY THE SPY.

Julie, you are cracking me up! Not because your titles are funny (they are amusing, but mostly I like them) but cuz you keep coming back, like an addict LOL. Well, there are certainly worse addictions...

A SPY'S GUIDE TO SEDUCTION
THE SPY WORE VELVET
LOVE WITH THE PROPER SPY
ON A CLEAR NIGHT, YOU MIGHT SEE A SPY (okay now I'm just being silly)

Love your suggestions, Julie! =) I'm with Stacy, you are too funny with all your posts--I LOVE it!!

Hmmm, if I ever have another kid, Julie's the one I'm heading to for a name ;-D.

Michelle, oh yeah, I've often been tempted to give good grades to sweet kids, but the reverse is also true. If the kid is a real pita I so badly want to give them crappy grades. Vindictive? Absolutely. The worst part is coming up with all the comments I have to write. You always have to start with something positive. Um, how 'bout "Your child breathes well."? So, ladies, if you ever need report card comments translated from teacher into English, I'm your girl.

Oh, gosh, sorry, this is about coming up with titles for Sari's book! Oops! (Never could stay on topic...)

Sari said...

You ladies are awesome! I will dream about these tonight & hope that something will strike!

Hi,Cindy!!!- thanks for stopping by!

I am hesitant to go into too much detail on the book since I have yet to go through revisions (I usualy re-write most of the book then). That said, as of now, it's about a lovely lady spy who is being investigated by a hunky barrister that she knew in childhood. She's a lady of mystery and he has trouble keeping his mind on the investigation when she's around.

Thanks, again, for the great ideas!
Best, Sari

Michelle Buonfiglio said...

Thanks for visiting us, Sari, and for giving us a peek into your next novel. Mention the word "barrister," especially paired with the concept "knew him in childhood," and I am SO all over that book. Cannot wait.

Stace: I figured as much. Most of the time, authors and publicist are great, lovely people. Every once in a while I deal with one who's kind of not so lovely to deal with. But I rate books, not people. Wonder if their teachers had to think the same way when they were kids?

JulieO, I agree, you were obsessed today! It was great fun checking in to see what you came up with.

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with potential titles for Sari's next book. I'll let you know what she comes up with when it comes out. :)

OK. Now I"ve REALLY got to finish writing. yikers.
